Data cards useless

What is the point in data cards? I got Leia from one and another 7 points towards her. Other than that it's been low lvl crappy characters I'm not even bothering lvling up. How many stars do I need on a resistance fighter? And developers I wouldn't spend money on this game as all I would get from it is characters I don't want
