Help strategizing to beat hAAT

We just did a hAAT. We got to ~65% in Phase 4. I think particularly our p3 teams could improve a lot, which would save some more riff raff teams for phase 4. But is it better to take the time to farm more teams? Or is it mostly just experience with the fight that will allow us to improve and beat the tank?
I'm thinking back to my days of WoW raiding, and while gear definitely made a difference, most of the improvement in a raid came from drilling wipe after wipe on how to anticipate spike damage on the tanks, DPS not standing in the fire, etc. etc. etc. So is hAAT mainly a gear check? Or something we should just practice?

the 3rd attempt after we cleared it for the first time was way easier than the first clear (and obviously than the failed attempts). Don't think we as a guild improved our rosters by much in that 1 and a half week.
Getting some key characters ready can have a huge impact on your performance though.
