Guild members that are under 18

Hey guys,

I'm curious if anyone's heard anything about EA's intention to start allowing guild members under 18 to see guild chat and hold guild leadership positions. It's a long story in my current guild and I don't feel like typing it out, just curious if anyone knows about ea changing that policy.

Thanks

Dont think that EA will change it.
Work a round use Line or Discord. There is also no censoring, which is very anoying.

It does not make sense to have kids in a guild, not able to ask for help at all.
    Good luck!

Really? Under 18 can't use chat. Can they even see it? How about the guild motd??? Maybe thats why some don't even talk and do damage in the 24 hour registration. I've been booting kids all this time....

My cousin who is under 18 joined a guild and could not use or even see the guild chat.

Also he could not change his name, he is stuck with 'Ceth Senpai' as his name.

That seems to be a problem with trying to coordinate raids and stuff.

I knew there was an age restriction that prevented youngsters from customizing their names and using guild chat. But I figured that the age limit must be something like 12, not 18. :D

    Um.
I'm sixteen, and I can see the chat just fine.
I input my age as such and everything, I can even change my name.
    I have zero issues

It is an issue particularly the name changing bit. My son is stuck with a canned name and can't join in on the chat. Despite me changing his age both at EA and Origin, it's a no luck deal. We use Discord but the entire guild isn't using it (unfortunately), which leaves my son out of the loop for quite a bit unless I'm online and around when he wants to interact with folks.

I believe it's 13 and over, right? Regardless, what kid these days will input anything less than 21? LOL!

@LG500 if your guild isn't using Discord for chat, you should. And my ultimate suggestion to you is to find a guild who competes in Heroic raids so that you may progress faster.

Not sure if it's 13,16, or what, but my cousin is 12. And can't use the chat.

It's not just a censorship thing. Minor accounts online are often restricted in such ways to help protect them from pedophiles. EA will never change this policy, nor should they.

I think the guild description is the only way to get around this.

Who the hell made EA the world's nanny? I can see some restrictions in place for young kids like 12 and under, but 17? No wonder we have so many coddled snowflakes running around.

There's laws they have to follow.

What a cute thought, sadly it's totally ridiculous when you step back and look at the big scale of the interweb, parents just needs to get their thumbs out, stop blaming every thing but themselves, and teach their children how to handle social media.

I made an iOS family account for my 7 year old and he can see guild chat...not sure if he can post. Don't think he can change IGN though.

Absolutely. I'm kind of okay with image filters -- my kids 8 and you can look up the most innocuous thing and get some pretty horrid stuff, and I'm not even talking about porn!.

But the rest really needs to fall back on the parents... who need to actually parent. Because, at some point, they do turn 18 and then what, you just throw them to the dogs? The whole point of childhood is they get this space to screw up a lot and, thus, learn a lot.

Anyways... yeah, we've kicked a lot of minors out since guilds started, but you can't blame the devs, I'm pretty sure their hands are tied on that one.
