Thrawn is canon because he's in the Rebels tv series...the new book is canon also, but NOT the older trilogy books. I have no idea who those two characters you named are, but they're not part of any canon...

I'd never heard of Darth Nihilus, but these guys absolutely. Crimson Empire, Crimson Empire II, Crimson Empire III were some of the better Dark Horse comics. There was also a Bounty Hunters: Kenix Kil one-shot, and I think there was a fifth appearance. These guys had to fight Vader to get into the Royal Guard, and they were the best of the bunch. They're certainly canon but not Disney canon. They're both Legends canon, just like Nihilus, who again I'd never ever heard of when they announced him. Nihilus is only in a video game, one that not very many people even played. It didn't do all that well. At least these guys are in actual Legends canon stories in the comics and in multiple ones.
These guys have action figures sitting on the shelves as we speak. I remember these guys from my comic book days and figured SW fana would too at least. Just wait for them to hit Rebels I guess.

True. But they are restricted to disney approval. My guess is that they got permission for the KOTOR game characters that they previously had rights to. So doubtful we we see any named character outside of canon or KOTOR games.

They were given a list of works they could pull from. Basically it amounts to all canon materials, and all previous EA Star Wars games (i.e. KOTOR).

I have read well over 10 of the books out there and never remotely heard of these two.
Perhaps we could ask for reasonable items and characters.
