What's going on with Speed now!?

My team consists of Sid, Lumi, QGJ, FOTP, Poe at lvl 70 most gear 8 and I'm absolutely getting hammered..!
I have swapped them all around in my formation but my opponent consistently attacks first and often. I just had a match where I attacked twice then my opponent attacks six times in a row before my 3rd toon attacks! Ironically my Poe attacked last.. how is that even possible?
I'm frustrated because I can't figure out how speed works... any help would be greatly appreciated..
Fyi .. I was usually the one attacking first and often and I know they changed Poe's speed by 1 but its not making any sense to me now why my opponents attack first and often sometimes with the same characters I have!
