Stack at "Checking for updates"

I launched the game this morning and it got to the checking for updates screen and hangs there.

I tried clearing cashed, restarting, clearing data, and reinstalling. When the game is back up after all that it still hangs at checking for updates.

Galaxy Note 5, Android 7.0.0, software up to date.

Disabled wifi and now it works. Not sure why it wouldn't update with WiFi on.
