TW payout on tied scores

I've been told that where mutual annihilation occurs, the guild achieving that first is deemed the winner. WHAT???
I'm in Australia and TW starts at 5am, eastern states. A bloke rises & goes to work (not every job allows you to ignore the workplace during lunch - ask a teacher). If he gets home 5pm, that's a 12h delay
But
On the other side of the planet, TW starts at 5pm. A guild of players there has a HUGE advantage.
This may be an extreme case but it shows that First to Annihilate Wins pays a guild's geography not their achievement. It works in real life, but this isn't real life. Need to cater to ALL those time zones
A decision not thought through!!!

Alternative?
1 both win because that's what they both did
2 while GP don't tell the whole story for any team, what other yardstick? If guilds are matched by GP, guild with most GP in unused eligible toons is the winner. More reserves come from better attack
