Indiana Jones

Prev134
The other major and notable LucasFilm property aside from Star Wars. Any fans here? One of my favorite movie series ever and even moreso than SW. It's one of my all-time favorite series and I love all the films very much in their own way, even the much-maligned fourth chapter. My ranking for the series is probably quite untraditional and controversial, but it goes:

Temple Of Doom
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
The Last Crusade

I think in a lot of ways Raiders is truly the best one, though I find Temple Of Doom to be the most entertaining. I actually go back and forth on Last Crusade and Crystal Skull. I like The Last Crusade but it tends to be my least favorite due to being so deriative of the original, though it's still a tremendous film.

The fifth one is set for release in 2020 and I'm excited. Hope we get some news on it soon and I'd imagine we will with the release only two years away.

Replies

  • I didn't know they were making a fifth one; I will be looking forward to it. My ranking is:
    The Temple of Doom
    The Last Crusade
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I haven't seen them in awhile, though; so my rankings may have changed over time.
  • It's set for release in 2020. They better get on it right now, Harrison will be 78 by 2020. He looked great in Blade Runner 2049, so he can surely do Indy a final time.
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the greatest movies of all time as far as I'm concerned, and I love Last Crusade and Temple of Doom, but I thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was so horrendously bad that it killed the series. I am not at all excited to see another Indy movie. Just let it stay dead.
  • Another movie could easily help the series bounce back if it's well-done. KOTCS was a big disappointment when I first saw it but it grew on me a lot with rewatches.

Exactly my opinion dude, why did they involve aliens!

It's possible, unlikely but possible. Although Harrison Ford surely only has enough left in his tank for 1 more Indiana Jones movie, if that. And if it sells, they'll make more. Do you really want to see the series bounce back and then continue on without the real Dr. Jones? I sure don't.
I haven't built up the courage to rewatch KOTCS yet, but I don't think it will grow on me. Even ignoring some of the ridiculous and unnecessary plot decisions (aliens, surviving a nuclear blast in a refrigerator, etc), it just had none of the charm that made the originals more than your run-of-the-mill action adventure flicks.
  • Which is why it's so important they get on Indy 5 right away and also make it really good, end the series on a high note. I too wouldn't want an Indy movie without Harrison.

I rewatched temple of doom some time after I saw crystal skull. It was much more hokey than I remembered. Had a lot of similarities to crystal skull actually.

My order is raiders, crusade, doom
    , skull.

Sean Connery was so good in crusade. It's a really fun movie. Hopefully that's not just nostalgia talking, because I haven't seen it in forever.

Coming out of TLJ my buddy summed up what I was feeling when he said, "That was like, Crystal Skull bad."

I agree that TLJ was Crystal Skull-esque, but for me that means a strange departure yet still very entertaining.
  • One of the best adventurous movie of all time. I will rate it 5 stars.

    Raiders
    Last Crusade
    Temple of Doom
    Crystal Skull

I loved the first 3 movies in this order but was greatly disappointed by the 4th installment.

With proof that God exists with the Arc and also the Holy Grail it was sad to see the series take a dive along the lines of Aliens in the Crystal Skull.

I hated the crystal skull for more reasons than that though - added Marion from Raiders just for Nostalgia and then made Indy have a kid with her - who I felt constantly played tug of war with Indy to gain audience popularity the entire movie.

I am sure the goal of the studio was to have Shia LaBeouf replace Ford going forward but as we all know LaBeouf's career got derailed, so that ain't gonna happen, nor would I for one want it to.

I cannot recall Indy ever using his pistol at all the entire movie. He whips it out a couple of times and I think he shoots in the air - but this is Indiana Jones, an adventure movie, not some PC movie where use of a gun in (essentially) a childrens movie is considered violent - especially when people are being eaten alive by bugs.

Talking of Whip - he only uses he famous whip twice (to swing onto the truck/jeep in the beginning sequence and at the end to whip onto his "friend" at the end). Sorry, but Indy is known for his revolver and bull whip which were both sadly lacking in this movie.

Crystal skull was like a cheap version of the National Treasure movies (which were better) mixed with the cheesey Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies - only stealing the INdiana Jones platform to launch it.

Now Ford is decidedly too old - we are getting a Han Solo movie this year. A young Han Solo - which is weird because Han was young enough in A New Hope, and the new movie's Han looks nothing like Han from ANH.

Further more we are getting a back story on a character we already know about his past - yet SNoke remains a mystery????

Getting back to topic - who will play Indiana Jones? Personally I think they should just leave the franchise of Indiana Jones well alone for it to stand the test of time of being the greatest action/adventure series ever - a classic in its own time.

    Rant over

As for Indy games - the best INdiana Jones game EVER was The Emperor's Tomb (released on PS2 and Xbox - playable on the Xbox 360 as backwards compatible and hope it comes to Xbone).

This game had it all - amazing story!, jungles, tombs, puzzles, love interest, ferocious animals (crocs and sharks), Na.Z1s, Chines warriors, whip could swing, take enemies to ground and whip objects out of hands, gun, brawl (including environment objects) and Indy's humorous whit. Not to mention he could lose his hat in a fight and then at the end pick it up and put it on his head - CLASSIC!

Then they made Staff of Kings (PS2 and WII - this was supposed to be available on 360 but that version was scrapped).

Staff of Kings was not as enjoyable as Emperor's Tomb but was still really good. Sadly they decided to cut funding of the game so it was only released on PS2 (at which time was a dying console), WII (controls were just awful beyond word) and was cancelled from the XB360 platform - which would have been its best version most likely - very disappointing.

Others to mention are Adventures of Indiana Jones, Fade of Atlantis etc etc. But I'd say Emperors Tomb was simply an amazing game that any Indy fan would sincerely love from beginning to end.

One of the most famous Indiana Jones scenes is indy just shooting the scimitar guy in the streets...

I think Last Crusade and Crystal Skull are a lot alike in the sense they're a lot more comical and goofy than the first two. They emphasize comedy more than the first two which are much more serious.

Graphics are xbox quality - but the playbility is there and really feels like it could have been an Indy movie easily - makes Crystal Skull look like poop (which isn't hard but you know what I mean, lol)

I don’t have steam, I’m very busy during this stage of my lide, I only go on forums off topic and general discussion and play GOH during my free time

Me too, I have some time at home for BF2, Far Cry Primal and Skyrim, but my first born will be arriving in April - party over, lol

Aw! Congrats man! Hopefully he’ll/ she'll be another member of the Star Wars Fandom. If the baby is a girl, dress her up as Leia, not Rey. I see too many 5 year old girls as Rey.

But don't dress her up like Leia from the sail barge scene of Return of the Jedi, LOL

Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the greatest movies of all time as far as I'm concerned, and I love Last Crusade and Temple of Doom, but I thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was so horrendously bad that it killed the series. I am not at all excited to see another Indy movie. Just let it stay dead.

Exactly my opinion dude, why did they involve aliens!

I would say the same thing, except replace alien with Shia LaBeouf.

The meme was decent tho. But Palpatine is better.
  • Steven Spielberg only has one good movie to his name and it's called Raiders of the Lost Ark.

What's your point? None of those movies even remotely qualify as "good". Spielberg is a hack.

What dont you like about them? They all tell simple, original stories very effectively and efficiently, and have engaging, relatable, and unique characters. And while you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, you can’t exactly claim that “none of those movies even remotely qualify as "good"“ without explaining why despite them all being universally praised by audiences and critics alike.
