This is just a few of the examples that they could have used.
Allowing for cosmetic items that can only be obtained at end game, would not only keep people interested amd give them something to play for, but it could also keep the super sought after items for whales only so that they could show off their exclusive status. This would being a much better balance between p2p and f2p, keep the challenge level equalised, and stop the alienating of lower spending players.
Although Grevious may not be as OP as he could have been, there is always the chance that they could add more characters later on that are shard shop exclusive that could shift the balance over to pay 2 win.

You couldn't be more right. But it's too late...
This game is gonna be forever Galaxy of Sid and Luminara teams. There is no diversity and inaccessible chars add up to that.
R2 could have a combat skill. He could fly over, puke oil on the target and set him/her on fire. C3PO could walk over to a target and literally talk their ears off. They'd get DoT from being annoyed. Bonus unavoidable damage vs Han. Goofy? Yes. Awesome? Yes. So are the other suggestions like "lollipop lightsaber". That's part of what I liked about the lego star wars games for console though. Ehhh, maybe not right for this game.
