So is this the way communications are going?

@CG_Carrie if this is the way future info is going can you please at least have someone provide a summary? For reasons I will not get into here I will not be forced to watch the GC video's for information.
I don't think it is asking a lot to summarize the important points in a post.

Edit: missed a word (thanks @leef).

@catharsis478 has been doing transcripts with TLDR sections.
Other than that obviously the point of doing it through the videos is to get people to watch the gamechangers, so I doubt they'll do something to contradict that

I'd rather find out when the change actually goes live, a month later, than watch a video. Hard pass.

They're trying to help the game changers get views so they don't bolt towards the new marvel game

I do think that having them publish a quick summary of the information not long after the videos get published is a good compromise

Yeah, that's great hes doing it, but that shouldn't fall to him as "his job". I am wondering if this is a temporary thing until they have a full time community manager.

I dont think they will stop doing this, as this is just information that will be released later when the content launches, but there are details in the discussion that will never be fully translated either way.

I don't think it is asking a lot to summarize the important points in a post.

Just maybe they are doing it this way to give more advanced communication. The official release will include the breakdown as they always do. People complained about lack of communication well here it is. Don't fault them for using the Gamechangers either. It's a reward for them as they help the game for many who do watch it. You won't miss anything by not watching any videos. But if you want the latest tips, thoughts or a heads up about the future of the game then you have a way to do that.

Also there was already a written breakdown on reddit hours after the video. So it's out there. Can't get mad if you don't get it the way you want. Well I guess you can but why. It's better then nothing until a couple of days before it drops like before.

Just saw a transcript was posted 45 minutes before your post on the forums so it is here too.

I think the videos are good on a mass level. They exist for everyone to see, and it familiarizes people with the devs.

I should point out that I am, in no way, affiliated with (except for the part where I play their game) or employed by CG. It isn't part of my job, and it was just something I decided to do on my own time (which may be a sign that I need a bit more of a life); be the change you want to see and all that.

I do think someone at CG--or someone who is part of their volunteer force--should be doing this sort of thing (even if it's just summarizing what these videos are doing), since this is something we've been griping about since CG started using this strategy. As Kyno said, the lack of forum posts could simply be a sign that they currently lack a community manager.

Agree on this. Videos are fine, but not having an accompanying text update makes me feel left out. To put it simply - I read updates etc whilst inevitably in public, so a video takes up too much of my attention. I can dip in and out of text.

Let @Kyno be the community manager.
Set it info in a certain cadence , which they kind of have now, unofficially.
    Example:
Bossk event- date/type of event/abilities/zetas etc

Game changer video on the new toon.

Dev interviews - should be transcribed and posted here- always. This forum should always be the central station for information, something that we can always click back to and see. Add links to the videos.

    Easy breezy :)

    They cant afford me.

I dont think we need a transcript or even highlights, as long as most of the information gets here when the official release happens.

I would be fine with the gamechangers being the pre info hype, then the official information, then the event. That seems fine. Just not sure many agree with me on that point.

I wont EVER watch any GC video, i just dont support a method that spends 20 minutes to convey intel i could read in 30 seconds, just so they can monetize their videos.

Haha, you didn’t get the mod raise yet!

I think people just enjoy this forum. There’s always been the want and need that all roads should lead here. Reddit and YouTube are great but this should be the main hub. And the info will come here when released but I think most? people on here want more info and participation through here.

They could at least create an official thread here for each new video. I can't see those even in the "art and media" section, not sure where else to look.

Told them to add 2 more 0s to my check...

    Went from $0.00 -> $000.00......

I agree 100% this should be the hub of all information, but technically posting a link to the video here that would fulfill the role. We started to see this a bit ago with the character release accompanied by a string of videos of game play. Stuff like that can be useful and at the same time unnecessary to watch for those that dont like to watch stuff. I feel like this is similar but the videos are coming first, at least for some of the content we will have more official information come out with the content. IMO.

Maybe we start with thanking the for trying something new and different. Allow people like catharsis478 to do what he did and thank him for that so they can see what the community wants. If this post doesn't get a lot of reads or comments then it isn't something the community wants.

There's already several summaries out there so I don't see why they need to take time from a paid employee to do that. Let them focus on other things. The official description comes out around the time it is added to the game when everything is confirmed. If they have an employee start writing this up it becomes official and then when things get changed right before it's added to the game people will complain again.

I think they are doing great in starting to make changes. They aren't going to figure it all out overnight. Besides since they notify everyone in game everyone knows to watch the video or look for a summary.

You've missed the point completely. I'm fine with videos that other people can watch ALONGSIDE written posts. This ships video did not come with an associated written post, so I'd have to watch it to get the information (putting aside the awesome transcript, which shouldn't be necessary). A choice is great, but at least in this case, I wasn't given a choice.

That was the OP's point, and it's a good one. More choice is better. A text version accompanying the videos is great...

But you didn't say that. You said you would rather find out a month later when the changes go live than watch a video. That's kind of confusing.

So CG are forcing us to find out the info fro 1 person from each update.

Well firstly I struggle to get around to watching the videos for various reason so would much prefer something written down. Secondly not everyone likes every gamechanger. For instance someone might love Ahnalds videos and hate cubs ones but someone else vice versa. Why are we being forced who to watch? Why are we being forced to watch? Give both options and you wont **** so many people off.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. You should teach a course in how be hateful for no reason. You could say something like, "thanks for the info, but could we get a text version of what is contained in these videos?"

I wish they would stop pushing the game changers down our throat. All this has done is made me stop watching them all together.

Count me as one who disagrees, and with good reason.

The internet in general has moved to video and audio sans transcript, which leaves out a portion of the population: the hearing impaired and deaf. Like me.

It is hard as hell for me to watch the videos. Closed captioning on YouTube is wildly inaccurate. I have to read instead of watch (when there is something interesting on screen to actually watch, which is rare), then try to translate what is being said into something that makes sense. I can watch the person on the video (often a pastime in which I am not at all interested) to lip-read IF they are on screen. Thus far, the developers have been audio only, and generally at lower quality audio than the game changers, which compounds the difficulty. I can’t see their faces in order to read lips. Don’t get me started on varying accents, because that makes it even harder.

I maintain the news server on our guild’s discord. I scrape the forums for useful data and deal with videos so our guildies don’t have to. I don’t mention to them how difficult it can be for me because I enjoy researching and writing, but videos are the bane of my existence. I know very well that player frustration gathering data contributes to burnout, and as an officer it is in my interest to reduce that so our players remain involved and effective. That means I have a difficult job with my disability.

My spouse is color blind, which affects playing many games negatively. SWGOH doesn’t suffer from that as much, which is great! We can play together! Getting information sans video about it is just a bear.

So yes, in YOUR opinion there does not need to be a transcript because *you do not physically need one*; congratulations on being fully abled in the hearing realm! Please just be aware that there are many players whose abilities, both physical and cognitive, are limited in using this method to gain information, and consider them when disseminating details.

(Tagging @CG_Carrie in case she finds this important enough to address with her team.)

I prefer a transcript to a video. It is a massive time saver and it is also easy to check again certain parts of the content. Quite honestly some of the videos I watched had hardly any worthwhile information in them. Just wasted time. With a written summary I can quickly glance over it.

The forum should generally be the place where all relevant information about the game is accessable and ideally without linking to 3rd party platforms.
