User generated AI

One of my favorite games/franchises has been the dragon age franchise. There are many reasons for it, but the primary reason is that it allows me to control multiple characters in real time in a (mostly) logical fashion through the use of the tactics system. The tactics system (for those that do not know,) allows you to build a set of target and ability priorities for each character that they will perform without additional user input. For this game there are several benefits to introducing a system like this.

First, it would be a one-time-program-it-in-then-done addition as opposed to the constant need to develop new AI for new characters. In reality, this sort of system may already be in place as the baseline for the AI each character already uses. We just need to see it and be able to use it. The developers may introduce default tactics for each character, but that is not entirely necessary, and no different than what they do now.

Second, it would let defense be a contest beyond just characters/gear/mods and introduce the final component of logic. Can you build a tactics system that locks your opponent down even when you are not there directing them? Can you build a team that overcomes the enemies tactics? This sort of addition to the game would mean that there could be surprising twists in the enemies strategies that you don't see coming. Why didn't thrawn fracture gen kenobi? Is old ben going to taunt first or ability block first? And so on... This makes pvp a game of backgammon (luck and strategy) rather than a game of high-roll-wins (pure luck).

Finally, it allows people to automate (with potentially more finesse) some of the more tedious elements of the game... sith raid anyone? At the time of this post, the feedback thread is up to 53 pages and still climbing (though with admittedly a great deal of "hello? anyone there?" types of posts). However, the posts that are "on topic" are primarily about the tedious nature of the raid. By introducing player generated AI (which I am going to suggest having a raid/pve interface which takes into account extra abilities of each encounter, and a pvp interface which would be as expected), we can start actually using the mechanics of the encounters when we hit the "auto" button for the fifth time each day...

This is a great idea, but may not be practical for them to implement on the defensive side of things.

1- they would still need to develope a good base line defensive setup, because not everyone knows the game that well and new teams need to be at least on par with where they are right now.

2- with all the toons they need to be ready to store data from x number of users, for y number of characters.

3- not really an issue just an observation, we already have UI issues and this would need to have a complex setup to make it feel intuitive.

Allowing us to customize a setup before hitting auto would be nice. Being able to set priorities on special skills and some basic lock outs would go a long way to help.
