Speed help

So, kind of new, but also not. I took a yeah and a half long hiatus and missed quite a bit, apparently that includes arena first turns and how speed is affected. What’s the deal with that exactly? Fastest toon doesn’t always go first anymore.

you will need to be more specific. there are toons that will start with TM due to uniques. there are toons that gain extra speed from uniques, and you will think your faster from looking at the numbers.

so what team where you facing?
  • There are characters like Asajj and Vader who’s leaderships or uniques give them extra speed, and there are characters like Bastila and BB8 who’s leaderships or uniques give extra turn meter at the start of the battle.
  • The Fastest character usually goes first. It means there are some other cases. Han solo, which is one of the most popular character, goes always first. But if he is on the both side, then speed determines the priority. Another case is BB-8. When the battle begins, BB-8 and other droids allies gain 8% TM x (the number of droids allies). That’s why BB-8 go first usually, when BB-8 scatters the secret intels, Rey gets bonus TM, then she goes next.
But in this case, BB-8’s speed is very important.
So, speed still determines the one who goes first. It means the most important thing when you modes your character is speed.
  • That makes sense. I heard some stuff about a coin mechanic, but what you guys have said makes a lot more sense than that. Thanks everyone

Sorry, but this is wrong. When two characters have 100% TM (e.g., two Hans at the beginning of a match) it is a coin-flip to see which one goes first. Speed doesn't play into it at all. Try not to spread misinformation.

Whoever told you about the coin flip was right.
  • Turn meter is the turn designator.
Turn meter gain in many instances is far farfar superior to speed. Free 100 percent TM skill...raid Han ...is not the end all. Leads to a tie many times and a coinflip.

FO Squads get two turns before most teams get one
  • If you want to compare turn meter gain to speed, the math is Speed / (1-TM gain) = equivalent speed. For example, if you had a speed of 150 but gained 50% turn meter, your speed bar would fill from 0 as quick as if you had 150/(1-0.5) = 300 speed. This gets a lot trickier if you’ve already got turn meter in your bar, but if you’re worried about who takes the first turn it’ll be useful.
    Another example (simplified to illustrate):
You run Ep lead with 5xsith, and are playing against bastila led Jedi. Their fastest is Yoda, yours is Vader. Vader has 200 speed, yoda has 250. Let’s say Vader gains 80 speed from sith allies/Jedi enemies, so it would look like he’d take the first turn (280 v 250 speed). But yoda starts with 15% TM from bastila’s lead, so on his first turn his effective speed would be 250/(1-0.15) = 294. Yoda takes the first turn, but after that with no extra turn meter gain Vader would start to lap him (obviously both would gain TM from various abilities, so who goes next would be a bit more complex).
  • That math will work to compare speeds for any amount of turn meter filled, as well (300 speed with 75% full would be 1200 effective speed, 200 speed with 90% full would be 2000 so the latter would go first).
