If lead is killed in TW , does the 2nd character in slot with leader ability get used by default?

Say your palpatine is killed in a TW combat,and you have Thrawn in second slot,in the 2nd combat does the thrawn lead activate?

No, if the lead dies, future attempts on that team will not benefit from a leader ability. This sucks imo, and should be changed.
