Damage done to Nihilus's protection doesn't count towards the total damage. Only hits to hit green health bar count.
If you hit Nihilus with a basic ability, he can inflict defence down on the attacker. Any character with defence down that hits hin with a basic causes his protection to regenerate.
The team that you have there, with lots of assists and multi-taps using basic abilities can cause Nihilus to regain more protection than you are doing in damage.
In all the raids there are non boss toons and in the Sith raid Nihilus has protection. Damage to those doesnt count towards the total damage, but will show in the individuals damage count.
The only damage that counts towards the total is the damage to a raid bosses health.
Explain how the numbers can be opposite?
Ex. Total dmg is more than the sum of the toons dmg added up.
things like assists, thermal detonators, and DoTs dont count towards the characters damage, but do count towards total damage. this will lead to the total damage being higher than the sum of the toons used.

Guess that team is only useful against Sion then... (that many assists are deadly against Traya)
