Why have a preview and setup phase?

Why have a preview and setup phase in territory wars and grand arena? Why not just start on a setup phase? This way player don’t have to wait 2 days to finally attack.
Day 1: Event starts, you join and you setup defense
Day 2: Your opponent is selected and you attack
For Grand Arena repeat at Day 1 till the end.
End Day: Results and rewards.

- many people like yo customize their defense based on their understanding of the opponents. This means setup has to happen after the player lock, when the opponent is assigned.
- it's possible that they need to have player lock happen first to organize the data for the setup and battle phase
