Clone protection recovery

So I’ve put Rex in the lead rather than zCody for my TW Clone defence. I’m watching our opponent go against it and Rex is recovering protection. I can’t work out how it’s happening though. I thought the only protection recovery for Clones was through the Cody lead.

Any ideas? Is it the +50% protection per ally bonus, even though they had none at the start of the battle? I’m stuck...

From my experience, I think you're right. They seem to get 50% of max protection at the start of each battle. So if you bring Rex down to 0% protection at the end of one battle and don't touch him in the next two he should have 100% protection again.

This is from my observation and not from indirection of any mechanics.
