Looks like CG are getting ready for losing their Star Wars Games licence by trying to r-pe players for as much possible cash as quick as they can - utterly ridiculous event! Not even moderate pay-to-play gamers will find this doable, just as well I vowed to stop giving them money and settled into my "utter contempt for CG" mindset already!

I'm gonna laugh so hard if this game suddenly dies shortly after, and all these unsmart people who are actually buying vaults (man I pity them, they are sad) lose everything. Imagine these white knights or these "Play casually and get nothing and be really really boring and pointless" suddenly lose everything because the game died because so many quit.

Yet just like when many games before this died and had people defending the devs till the day the games disappeared forever because of a lack of playerbase, history keeps repeating itself.

I've seen so many games die with these same people who defend poor decisions going at it while the game dies and everysingle cent spent is gone forever.

Remember, these are not our servers. When the servers go, this game disappears. SWGOH one day will not exist.

Stop hating on people, stop complaining, and let us actually fight to make this game better so it lasts longer for everyone. If people keep attacking the people who want the game to be better, this game will die.

Just out of curiosity, if you don't have Revan or Darth Revan, will Malak still be in the guild event store?

Nope , you won't see him unless you do the event.
  • My main gripe with this is the incredibly short notice required to take the characters to a gear level that can compete.

I spent to get Revan, however left T3, Mission and Big Z at g8 so that I could crack straight on with farming the toons for DR. Trying to get DR as FTP I slightly missed due to the incredibly crappy drop rate on Juhani shards.

So I currently sit at having a dark side team that can compete, but will be unable to due to the light side battle being first and a light side team that I am sure I could make viable, if I had more than 2 days to gear them as the gear needed to take them a fair amount of cash investment. Had I been able to compete at a lower investment I probably would have as I am sure many would, but sadly it seems like CG would rather have 1 person spend £400 than 100 people spend £20.

All this manages to achieve from my side is that I probably will sack off arena (my least favourite aspect of the game anyway) to the mandatory 2 attempts per day to achieve my daily rewards. It may award crystals (which as previously mentioned I am not opposed to buying and arena rewards pale in comparison) and have unlocked everything from arena shipments. As arena shipments will not be getting an update this paywall just means that arena will be dead to me.

Could have been dealt with in a much better manner as there is panic farming and then is a 2 day window which is nothing more than a joke at the players expense. My only hope is that this idea of giving a minimum power value to enter events does not set a precident for things to come as I have 2 friends that have already decided this morning to call time on the game as due to the nature of recent events, and the upcoming changes to hard nodes further lengthening farm times, to call time on the game. No whales, however dolphins and a loss of potential income.

A 2 week farm is one thing, but dropping an event with very high expectations 2 weeks after a character that many spent hundreds on, with a 2 day window, to seemingly compensate for the disappoint performance of said investment is poor.
  • CG - following the announcement of the Starforge event, I just gotta say; I don't possess or know of anyone who possesses a bag of Richards big enough for you to go suck on.

Why is it (ok I know why - we all do) everytime an event is released the ONE, SINGLE, SOLE mechanic is grind. Stars, gear, power. Woot - consider me engaged.

Tactics - no need for that crap, we have grinding.

Fun - no need for that crap, we have grinding.

Characters you love - nope, use what we tell you to, level what we tell you to, gear what we tell you to. (granted we can bench one toon from each phase for the StarForge event so... well done there I guess)

You tell us you're excited about the theory crafting that's going to go into a 2 day event that hardly anyone can even access? What? Just What?

Is there any chance - any chance at all, that we can maybe one day have something fun and engaging that's maybe open to the majority of the player base.Tactical would be nice - I appreciate in a game like this that's not a quick win, but it would be nice.

Maybe events open to whole factions (I know - it almost sounds like I'm asking for an assault battle like event with varying degrees of difficulties and tactics, instead of continuous gated grind fest legendary (ish) events).

Coming to that - the community asked you to 'stop the marquee events - we've had them continuously for 6 months straight'. You're reaction is - 'Everyone is asking for 6 months of continuous legendary, high gear, low intelligence events. Quick all hands on deck - we're gonna give them what they want. I can't wait to see their happy smiley faces'.

It's getting old. It's getting old - really quickly.
  • Funny thing is, the only way CG is going to respond to all these pages of hate is deleting posts and adding more paywalls. This game is now definitely another one of EA's sad and desperate cash grabs.
  • Play since March 2016 almost 4m GP and didnt put my review into the Playstore and Appstore.
Now i will and it wont be positive. Maybe you guys should do the same.
  • Yeah my post def got deleted, so there are some things that are not allowed...

I'm all for new events but this requirement and the shortness of the event is just outrageous. People joke about the greed but this is literally stealing almost all players resources. Especially so soon after most players paying to get Darth Revan ready....

Yup, nice little gift to keep the whales happy
  • I have mixed feelings about this event.
    On the pro side:
    - something new
    - in theory really good/ cool
    - doesn't make me mad because i instantly knew i couldn't unlock him (no DR)
    - i already have every toon on g11/12 (except big z g8)

    Then we have the cons:
    - one weekend to get him (srsly?)
    - getting stabbed in the back (were told we would never need journey toons for an event*)
    - the way they introduced this event (a couple days before the event really?)
    - no new content so the focus is completly locked on pvp atm (at least i feel like it)
    - mooonnnneeeyyy$€$€$€

They need to make cash and i assume they got roped by EA because DR didn't bring in enough. (There were a lot of people that actually got him f2p)

And the last thing i want to mention is that i'm not sure if i/we should blame cg for this. I'm sure they love the game and try their best but this event doesn't feel right or like cg tbh. You can smell ea all over it. And they probably tried to avoid malak for as long as possible because they hate it too but they can't do **** about it when it comes to ea money decisions. That's all just my guess.
  • So the double paywall for Darth Revan with both the event and his gear being walled wasn't enough. Is there an end to your greed?

It said it was an achievement. If you remember the 12 days of spring event it was also an achievement and never came back

the 12 days of spring was an android only event. It never came back because it was a horrible idea to do that.

Simply put, this is unethical. The price tag they associate with these things are accessible to two types of people: 1) "gamechangers" who see income off the game and thus can write a $300 toon spend off as a business expense or 2) addicts. Simply put, these are predatory business practices.

If there were reasonable prices on things (in the $10-$50 range) they'd see wider participation, but clearly they've done the math as they've eliminated things in the $10 range and charging hundreds for items / toons makes their bottom line more. Most of the consumer base is in a "no win" situation, if we don't push for the new content, they stop dropping it and the game dies, if we do push for it the bar keeps getting higher and higher.

To be clear, I'm not saying everything should be accessible to free to play. I get a lot of enjoyment out of the game and am willing to spend a bit, but when you can buy a PS4, several games and pay your utility bill for what 2 new toons cost, it's simply ridiculous.

As someone who has already invested resources into these characters (Old Republic is a good TW/GA team). This event will end up being significantly less costly than getting a marquee to 5 stars.. .

    Cool.

You bet on black and it came up black.

That doesn't mean it's ethical to run the game this way. They are playing off people who are addicted to the rush of getting #1 in arena, bottom line.
  • This.
I think when the event is really hard I have to invest 20 bucks max 50 bucks for Malek. Else I m ready right now, bring it on.
    I think its worth it.

I don't think $50 is unreasonable for new content. But to only cost $50, you need to have done a lot right. I have 7 of the toons above the threshold, an 8th 1 piece away. But the other 2 are G8-9 and well away. With some luck I'd be able to get enough omega mats in the timeframe (I have the zeta mats) to zeta one and get it close. But the other I'd either need nearly a full zeta worth or 4 levels of high gear. That's not a $50 spend. And that's for someone who has done "most" things right.

I have zero doubts there's people who'll clear the event no problem. But that simply means they bet right. It doesn't mean it's not predatory on CG / EA's part.
  • The difference between EA/CG and the other houses making "f2p" games is that our guys figured out that giving you the anxiety of losing all your previous investments is profitable. Do you know who else does this? Casinos. Gambling houses. I won't say those two words, because they're obviously scared by them and I don't want to give them easy ways to remove me. But this is what is happening. Five years plan, uh? Why wasn't this mentioned further? Well, at least we still have some years until they're done with the cash grab and let the game die.

Ok - hold on a sec...how the hell are these practices “predatory” - can we actually debate this issue like adults for a change?

Most people playing this game are 18+ - we make choices like everything in life.

I am probably a bit of a whale but how does that make me an addict?

My friends spend spend 6 bucks for a Starbucks coffee full of sugar (daily) - 12 bucks on a Burger meal full of cholesterol every other day - 8 bucks for a shot of JD & Coke when they go clubbing every other week lets say? And maybe 35 bucks for a steak and chips twice a week?

But the minute a SW fan spends $$ on a game which gives heaps of enjoyment we are “addicts”???

I really don’t get people complaining....I mean F2P get a great run on swgoh - everything becomes farmable at some stage - pretty much all content is accessible after a few months so why the complaining?

I mean if you cant wait maybe 5 or so months to when Malak might possibly become more attainable - then maybe its you with the “addiction” problem? Something to think about perhaps?

    Peace.

  • Not a bet, just what happens the last month:
when you got JKR, you will have him, Jolee and Bastila well prepared and ready
when you got DR, you will have him, HK and Bastila fallen well prepared and ready

Best add for JKR I guess and hope is Mission and Z. Both are very good toons for TW and GA, people who take those parts of the game serious will have both well equiped and ready
Best add for DR could be Ordo and Onasi. Those were needed for DR, wich was hard to get. So they are both G10 or G11 and many ppl Zeta Ordos Lead allready.

Thats were I stand without doing any bet. I got Ordo and Onasi to G12 the last 2 weeks to bring another OR squad to GA.

Not that special in the end

Sounds odd coming from a whale.

  • Other than Darth Malak not deserving such high praise/clout as this event gives him (we should've unlocked him first with the second wave of KOTOR characters and an event like this should've unlocked Darth Revan) I don't see what the fuss is about?

If you have Jedi Revan and Darth Revan you should already have Jolee/Bastila/Revan at G12 and HK/Bastila/Revan at G12. That takes care of 6/10 characters for this event.

Mission and Zaalbar (light side of the event) are really really good together, especially with a Carth lead with Ordo (dark side of the event) in the mix. That's a total of 10, which is all you need to get Darth Malak. All these toons you have to power up are worth the resources and it nets you THREE solid, very solid, squads for TW and GA, not to mention both Revan squads can be switched out for you Arena depending on your opponents.

Darth Malak is definitely meant to be hard to get because it slants the Arena in favor of the newest toy, Darth Revan. Doesn't mean you can't still win.

They only thing that might be a bit annoying is the short amount of time you have to complete this event. Other than that I don't get the massive amounts of hate. This is much better than a Marquee, Marquee Plus, Galactic Chase, or even making us use useless/new characters to unlock him.

    Relax.
CLONE HELMETS!! Now let's get Sabine her epic helmet.
  • Hello CG,

Thanks for the new content! Quick question - is the Malak event a one-time event (like a Marquee) or a recurring two-day event?

    Thanks!

Yes. I'm an adult. Which is how I can recognize that charging hundreds for digital content is ridiculous. Again, I've stated I don't have a problem spending some money on a game. But calling yourself a whale on game forums, clearly justifying yourself spending hundreds on that game by saying your friends drink coffee and eat food, saying it's not addiction, then saying someone else is an addict. That's clearly a countpookoo problem...
  • Reyalp wrote: »
You should remove the arbitrary power cap. If the event is as hard as you claim then those without the 'required' level will fail. But this power level requirement is a bad precedent - especially after you've rinsed us all for cash 2 weeks ago for Revan.

The power cap is probably the only way to avoid some lucky people completing the event from shear RNG... so I guess it's the only way to make absolutely sure that people won't get extremely lucky and unluck with G10 or G11 toons.

And I'm pretty sure that tuning the event to make sure that doesn't happen takes way to much programming than what can be done from CGs single workstation.

I have G12 Canderous but I do not have his omegas because I saved them for DR. After giving my entire DR team their zetas and omegas, I intended to refocus on finishing up my OR team but I prioritized DR for arena. Now I will not be able to get DM because I lack omegas to increase Canderous' abilities. Even if I decided to splurge and G12 the three characters I am missing, I would not be able to do this due to the issue of ability mats and now my DR team may seriously suffer as a consequence.... Irony.

Comment above reminded me--did I in fact make a review for the app? Had a look--oh, yes, I did. Was feeling lots more positive about it back then. Updated appropriately.

Free advice to EA/CG: When your customers give you money (say, for DR), and you turn right around and neuter what they purchased from you, don't expect them to eagerly give you more.
