Winners and Losers of new GA system

So the new matchmaking system is using GP of the top of our rosters. Smart players can take advantage of this just like they took advantage of the old system. So let's stop crying and find the path to victory. How do you get the strongest characters with the least GP? Variance in character GP is caused by 3 things- gear level, the number of abilities a character has upgraded, and the number of zetas a character has.

Winners
1. The biggest winners are characters that don't need zetas. Teams that are effective with minimal zetas are now more valuable. Imperial Troopers and Palpatine-led Empire are examples of teams that can be powerful with a single zeta.

2. Characters that are effective at lower gear levels. Lower gear, lower GP. This is a small group but it has notable members in C3P0 and hoda. Hope you didnt already g12 these guys.

3. Characters that have few abilities. Each level 8 ability adds about 1000 GP. (assuming it doesn't use one of those inflationary zetas) So characters with less of them are more valuable. Be sure not to level up those extraneous leader abilities! The new geo squad is a big winner here, containing 3 characters that only need 3 abilities, and only 2 zetas on the team as well.

Losers
1. Characters with weak or extraneous zetas are the big losers. A zeta adds about 2500 GP, so it better be helping a lot. Don't put zetas on leader skills you aren't using or weak abilities. Vader is a trap character, and you certainly don't want all 3 zetas on CLS or JTR. Also don't zeta multiple leader abilities for your Nightsisters.

2. Characters with many abilities. The Bounty Hunter faction really stands out here. All those leader and payout abilities really pump up the GP! Many characters have useless leader abilities. Only level up the abilities you need.

3. Factions with too many characters. There's a few exceptions, but most factions can't support multiple top tier teams. If you decided to level up all of your FO, it is now time to change your mind. Build teams, not factions.

It feels like gear isn’t adding lot of gp. Stars and Levels provide much more gp imo

If you want to try to game the system by levelling and gearing too few characters, you will hurt yourself in bracket rewards and PVE.

At least right now, there does not appear to be any penalty to improving your roster, and it probably has a benefit because it gets you into a higer reward bracket and allows you more offensive teams.

I'm not sure you're right. This was definitely how it used to be. Building lean meant only having exactly those toons that you needed. But the new matchmaking appears to trim off all the fluff anyway, and only take the top 60-80 toons of your roster into account. So go ahead and level and gear up your Holdo, your Aurra and your FO SF Tie Pilot... just keep them under the GP of your top 80ish toons until you have a solid use for them.

DISCLAIMER: CG could change their matchmaking back again at any time, or do something completely different, which could mess you up completely if you fluffed out your roster (or now requires you to severely fluff your roster... or who knows what).

This is wonderful advice of your aim is only GAC and you don’t care about HSTR or any other mode.

What? Why? I get top ranks in hstr, and I don't use any characters there that aren't useful for GA. I strongly doubt any teams that aren't useful for GA will be useful in the new TB.

Really, I think it's crap. You can't match someone with 4.6 mil vs 3.8

Although I agree with your general principle most of the facts you put forward are nonsense... are characters useable with minimal zetas orat low gear level yes; but they are also much more easily defeatable, advising anyone not to finish a character is ridiculous. As for not zetaing lead abilities, that's another ridiculous point: there are many teams that can beat much stronger teams with just a single zeta on a lead. Both ventress and MT leads have multiple uses and are worthy zetas. As for Palp what palp team with a single zeta can do anything against anyone? Unless you are a low GP player who is advising other similar players, you need to reconsider giving advice.

Basically just a bunch of massive speculation when we haven't even played a round yet, lol. Please feel free to take your EP and Trooper squads against my JKR and DR squads and we'll see who comes out on top, haha. At the end of the day, you still have to WIN battles. Trying to eek out minor GP advantages with a character here or there isn't going to help you clear top end squads.

Sure you can. Given that total GP is more or less meaningless when it comes to your strength in GA, that can actually be a totally fair matchup. There are stats and aspects that are important (zetas, 6 dot mods, g11+12 characters, speed mods, meta characters and teams), and then there are stats that are more or less useless as indicators, like total GP.

Exactly. Now ideally, EA would have changed the GP formula to more accurately reflect true squad power. Then the fellow with the 3.8 and the extra g12 and zetas and 6 dot mods etc would actually have roughly the same GP as the fellow at 4.6. Wouldn't have been overly hard (decrease the value of the earlier gear levels, stars, levels, and purple abilities, and increase the value of later gear levels, omegas, and zetas).

However, EA avoids anything that would take actual effort and goes for the path of least resistance....
