Dual-capital fleet battle - 1 way to make us feel less bad about Endurance

Make faction dual-battles.
LS vs. DS dual fleet battles would make it worthwhile. Instead of the diagonal view make cockpit view with your allies in the periphery as icons and all the enemies in field view.

Just a thought.

  • I've always wanted fleet battles to feel somewhat like boss battles where the capital ships (with boss health bars) are hitting each other, the fighters are dog-fighting and the bombers try to get through the fighter screen to deal critical damage to the capital ships. Not all capital ships are created equal however and should deal more or less damage to other capitals based on their power. A super star destroyer (or mega...) would totally outclass any other capital ship. This would require capital ship/fleet "sizes" to be implemented to balance out fleets.

For instance if you were allowed a fleet size of, say 9, and a super star destroyer filled all 9, then you couldn't bring in any additional ships. On the other hand, if you built your fleet with several smaller ships, say Home One (maybe it costs 6), you'd have 3 "capital slots" left and could bring in the Redemption (the medical frigate at Endor) which might cost 2 and the Tantive IV (Rebel Blockade Runner in A New Hope) which might cost 1.

The idea would be to balance fleets of ships based on how many capitals are there, the relative support they would give to the fighters and bombers (in the form of passives like what we see on current capitals), and how much damage they would deal to the other capital (larger ships would do more damage obviously). Under this system, battle would end when the "main" capital is destroyed.

Going back to your idea of Endurance + Negotiator in a fleet, they could cost 4 and 5 respectively to form a fleet of size 9. Since both would have smaller costs than any other capital currently existing, they would have the greatest fighter support and the lowest capital damage (meaning their fighters would be almost certain to win the fighter battle quickly and their bombers could therefore start attacking the enemy capital faster).

The costs I would implement for the current capital ships under a system (with 9 maximum cost) like this would be:

    Chimaera: 7
    Endurance: 4
    Executrix: 6
    Home One: 6
    Malevolence: 6
    Negotiator: 5

  • Oh, another thing to add to this is that larger capital ships might forgo bombers entirely and focus solely on fighters since their damage will be so large anyways, and their fighters would (for balance purposes) be inherently weaker than the other fleet's fighters and the other fleet's bombers would be quite dangerous to let through so it would want as much fighter/bomber protection as it can get from its own fighters.

    You got my vote.
  • Cg can’t implement a re-skin of an existing game mode without it being an abomination and people think they could reinvent the wheel like this ?

    /slow clap/
  • Just a thought.
    And hopefully remains just that.
