Speaking of JML - is GL unique not taken into Teachings calculation?

I thought that going from r7 to r8 with JML will increase Teachings significantly. However, it seems like it will only take into calculation protection gained from relic level and ignore the 10% from GL unique?

I'm aware that r9 gives more protection but unless higher relic levels will give the same I feel like JML will fall off with damage - Rey Whirlwind was addressed recently in that regard. Why not adjust it and take GL unique into consideration? I almost relicd JML to r8 because I was sure it matters, but apparently it doesn't (relic8 fives 13k protection, which only like additional 8k damage)

His ability states Base protection. Base protection does not account for uniques, only stats and mods at the start of the battle before uniques and leadership are applied. (R2 I believe is the only one , right now, to have an effect on base stats)

I believe the relic level % add does come into play.
