[Update] - The Story Behind It

Here is the story behind this. First the facts:
  • A level increase to level 80 was implemented.
  • Also the Holo Lens to upgrade gear was introduced.
  • The "Omega" will be available and visible only for player who reached level 80
  • The Holo Lens will be available when Guild Wars are introduced.

What does that means for players:
  • - It is possible to increase to level 80
  • - Some minor characters in arena can upgrade to gear level 9
  • - For all other characters gear level 8 is maximum unless Guild Wars are introduced.
The pure fact that players don't know where and how to grind the "Omega" (golden ability material) and the Holo Lens is pointless but will be revealed at a later stage: None is level 80 and Guild Wars are not introduced now. The only lose end was the decision how to implement that players can't gear beyond gear level 8/9 for now. And with the possibility in the game to pre-craft items the options were limited.

Possible Options
  1. Allow pre-crafted items to be used.
  2. Not allow ANY pre-crafted items to be used.
  3. Disassemble certain pre-crafted items

Bottom Line

At the end some players can upgrade their gear to higher gear levels than intended.
Some might disagree on how the CG/EA team handled this, but basically the other option, to not allow ANY pre-crafted materials would have been worse for most of the players and a complete waste of resources. Why ANY? Otherwise it would have been an advantage for some players who had pre-crafted the "right" materials. Also the idea to disassemble is good, but not practical as it needs time and resources to implement this new feature.

Conclusion

CG/EA had choosen the best possible solution appropriate to their intensions.

While I agree with these possible remedies, it would only cause more anger on behalf of the community. Obviously, you can't please everyone.

Another option might be to give everybody 48 hours to craft those items that the lucky few pre crafted (ie remove the unobtainable item). Similar to what they did when GW refresh was changed.

That way ppl can't complain they didn't get a chance/notice.

48 hours isn't enough for some of that gear. A week at least

The worst issue is the Gear and the pre-craft. They could have simply capped everyone at 9 and then offer Gear 10 items after Level 80 or at 80 if they wanted to equally slow everyone down. Then, the pre-craft would not have even been a thought...

With this thinking, why not a month? Why not a year? Come on.

My hypothesis on how this happened is:

    1) CG looks at player base and startled at how many player base hit the lv 70 cap and shards reach their saturated point
    2) CG decides to increase level cap with new refining gameplay (fortitude)
    3) CG decides to just increase level cap since the new gameplay isnt ready
    4) CG takes a look again at consequences of increasing lv cap to 80 and decides the game will be way too mature if they do not introduce those gold purple mats and new gears
    5) CG finds an AHA moment "why don't we link these new items to new content that these bunch of rascals have been asking for"
    6) But the new content isnt ready yet
    7) Decides to introduce new items along with lvl cap increase anyway even without the new content which lead a certain player base furious, but not me (imo it's a good decision esp. to lift the saturating point of too many players hitting lv 70, but could be a terrible one if new content does not follow suit in timely manner, i.e. taking too long that all players hit lv cap again)

In overall, I think CG definitely has a designed plan along with timeline to go with it. But because of one thing or another (lack of human resources, either quality or quantity maybe?) they always lag far behind the schedule and always need to go with plan B, just like how this whole thing turns out

New content and gear will be available by the time the new players need it. For those of us already above lvl 70, we are locked out of gear progression for a month.

Those that pre crafted are not...

    Not ideal.

This is probably pretty close to what the reality is. What's lost on so many people is that programming isn't easy. There are so many aspects that go into this game. Take a moment to relish in just the design. The detail in the stages are fantastic. The characters look amazingly accurate. The animation is awesome too. If any of those lacked, people would be complaining about it even more.

On Reddit, a retired programmer explained how much goes into just simple coding. This game is still relatively adolescent. People are complaining like it's been out for over a year.
