Does GA rank/tier change if you don't participate?

I have a guildmate asking. He's feeling a bit burnt out and was wondering if he would still get the same level of rewards for not participating or if his rank would go down if he doesn't register/doesn't participate in future GAs.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

I believe it degrades over time. More importantly though he will miss out on crystals.

Collecting those crystals can be done with minimal effort. Sign up, deploy (or let auto-deploy do it for you), make one attack per match to earn some banners and you'll at least get the rewards for a loss.
