you also probably have all but 5 toons 7* so it doesn't make sense for you to high roll tho

I have seen lots of people that it also doesn't make sense for doing it anyway. Good for them if high risk gambling is fun for them, I just have more fun optimizing resources.

I prefer SSc since its something players can obtain whenever they want if they are running low, ally points is limited in how much can get before the pack expires

And if you get a bad drop, SSc is refunded back for excess shards

Using ally points would really make this worth while. I think that next time, this pack will not be as popular, because, well, if you already have a lot of characters, it is betting against the system. It is great for newer players though.

Young Lando. Didn't need him. They should let you choose one character. That would be the best thing CG have ever done for the players. They are so stingy with character shards in general.

Kylo Ren. The odds are really low of getting someone needed.

I know 2 in my guild who were able to finish off toons - one a Sith Trooper and another 7th Sister.

Considering you get 4,950 SSC back if you whiff, it's only a 3,050 SSC gamble (less than 17 Fusion Furnace salvage).
