Placing Defense
The guy I am playing only placed 1 ship on defense and I didn’t know until I made it there, but the game never credited me with any points for him not placing 2 ships on defense. And because of that, I am going to lose the game. I started the game with 0 points when I should have had full points for the non placement.

Hmmm. You normally only get the points when you reach the zone which is only part full. Did you not get a big bump in points when you unlocked their fleets zone?
There would have been the bump in points from clearing the front zone, so you wouldn't know if you got those free points, unless you knew to remember your score before the win, add the battle score, then the zone score for the top. Then the extra points would be on top of that. So it's hard to recognize if it happens.
OP you can roughly work out if you got them by working out what your score should be, based on number of dropped battles, and your memory of your scores. It should be clear enough if you've received an extra 80ish points per fleet not set.
