This currency does nothing to make the experience more enjoyable. It serves only to delay the player from acquiring what they’ve already worked hard to acquire.
At the very least, currency should not be lost when a battle is lost.
I don't see how a persons opinion on your topic is irrelevant. I don't see it changing either. I don't believe it was ever intended to make the player experience more enjoyable - just to extract crystals from people too impatient to earn the currency through normal play.
I agree it should go away - or at least not count against failed attempts. But I'd be shocked if they did that. It performs it's function exactly as it was intended to.
F2P since the last time I bought Kyros, Crystals, or the Conquest Pass.

The topic of the OP is whether a game mechanic is well designed, good for the playerbase, and, consequently, whether it “*should*” remain in the game.
I’m not discussing what CG will or won’t do. It’s a mobile game. It doesn’t take much in the way of thinking to determine what is the most likely course of action a mobile gaming company will take.
I’m calling a bad system design for what it is. A bad system design. What CG will do about it is entirely irrelevant.

I’m not here to discuss the why of what CG is doing.
This is an oversight on your part.
If you want to effectively advocate for your position, knowing WHY the person you're trying to persuade is currently adhering to a different position is crucial for getting them to move.
I'm not saying you're not free to just say, "This is bad," and provide no argument or persuasion or even any alternatives (and you did provide alternatives -- tickets purchase a win rather than an attempt, and/or get rid of tix altogether).
I'm just saying making it a policy to ignore why the person/group you're trying to persuade is doing what they're doing is, in the long run, going to result in less success for you.

I more or less addressed the motive in my OP, anyways. I addressed the obvious point and moved on from it because I genuinely don’t see it as worthy of a conversation.
What is important to me is highlighting systems that are obviously oppressive to the player. You have a forum full of people complaining about the same topic, you might actually see a result.
The GL currency system is terrible. We all know it. Anyone with a brain knows why it’s designed the way it is. The more important conversational point is that the players want and deserve something better.
Yeah, that’s all we need is more types of currency. Yes, that’ll fix the issues. I agree: remove it, and re-integrate the earnings elsewhere. Because let’s not fool ourselves to thinking this is extra, it’s not.

That's a large part of why I'm blasé about this: we've had this conversation repeatedly for years. And even had other threads discussing this in the last week.
An interesting take, but, arguably, as things stand there really don’t appear to be any GL-worthy characters left in the canon.
When I first laid out my argument for why there might not be any GL toons after Leia, this was the crux of my argument.
GL JarJar just cheapens the entire GL category. It doesn't matter than he's famous, he just doesn't make sense as a GL.
And neither does any other toon, Cassian's not GL worthy. What, we want to make a GL stormtrooper or something? I just don't see it.
If CG knows what it's doing, they will move off the GL category.
If they do, that would be to put Mythic Characters or Hyperdrive Journeys instead, with new set of farming rules that people will love to hate.
I just hope the events will be fun to play. I really didn’t like the ‘event is really easy because farming is the challenge, and if it’s hard it’s unpleasant because you’ll lose your hard to get tickets’ aspect of GLs. I like when the event itself is a real part of the reward.

I think in Ahsoka season 2 or the movie we will see Thrawn become this threat leading the Imperial Remnant to become a GL worthy character. I could see Ahsoka becoming the light side GL counter part if what I think is going to happen in season 2 does. (And yes she would definitely be light side not neutral). Or we get a different DS GL is Ahsoka season 2 goes the direction it seems.

Whole-heartedly agree with this. I don’t think CG would lose much, and the player base would gain a lot, by tying tickets to wins and not attempts, particularly with harder events that require real strategies. Even if they are often frustrating, and require more than the minimums, the GAS and Malak events are some of the best designed IMO. Hard to beat the first time, but once you get the knack it’s straightforward with good enough units. I even wouldn’t mind if the events became a complete RNG fest, and became easier at an extra one or two relic levels on units, if they tied the tickets to wins. I understand why they don’t, but it feels like they could get a big win for a very small concession in their part.

yes, of course. They won't (and shouldn't) stop refreshing the meta. You just have to move on to something different every once in a while, and the GL thing is played out.
The next thing could be anything. "Shadow Powers" maybe. Give us Chancellor Palpatine, Darth Plagueis, Talon Karrde, some version of Mara Jade, Heroic Cassian or maybe Luthen Rael, plus other characters that are awesome, but little known on purpose (as they intentionally concealed themselves and their actions) as the counter-point to Galactic Legends who are both powerful AND widely known. We could have "Shadow Path" events (maybe even getting some marquee Noghri as a new faction). Heck, the Ahsoka series gives us a number of possible "Shadow Powers" characters who are obviously big deals but also obviously out of the public's eye. Between that, the Andor series, and a few other bits of lore about secret spying and skullduggery, "Shadow Powers" seems like a great way to exploit the lore, reward the die hard fans that know all these minor details from unbroadcast stories, and open up new factions for exploitation (the Pykes could figure in to the event requirements for some Shadow Powers, for instance).
When that gets played out, go to "Legacies of Power" characters where the theme is that they're all from the High Republic era or earlier. We could get a Legacy Yoda in that event that would finally be the equal to JMK and JML that the best Yoda should be. Neutral Revan could be a Legacy of Power character as well, plus other characters from the Old Republic era that are super powerful but aren't known to people who didn't play KOTOR or read the associated comics/books.
There's lots of potential yet to be tapped. But the GLs are from the 9 movies and have a combination of being very powerful and very well known (except, arguably, SEE? but there were a lot of ships in that final battle so maybe word of him spread after...)

This is hard to achieve, but in theory I am not opposed. I am strongly in favour of the power to win being placed in the hands of the player. Whether that's obscure modding requirements or setting up a challenge that the character's mastery can overcome (and thus is subject to greatly easing with the addition of relic levels) or requiring an unusually good understanding of the kits and how turn order or ability order helps or hurts you in an event, I don't care much. I just want this under player control and not determined by RNG.
And while I've said many times the unlock events should be celebrations of what we've achieved more than hurdles to prevent us from accessing the character, I've also said I'm open to much harder events IF the ticket mechanism per attempt were no longer a factor.

You understand the best option when feeling blasé about something is to simply not comment, surely.
It’s great that the conversation repeats itself because it’s not an issue that’s gone away. When there’s a problem, the correct solution is to perpetually mention the problem so CG understands this is a problem shared by many in the playerbase. I’m here to say my piece about my personal experience with these tickets. I don’t care if other people have come here and expressed similar concerns and I’m echoing previous topics. If it’s the same problem, it’s going to be the same complaint.
If you have no interest in participating in the same conversation over again, then don’t participate.
Ah, the Discussion Paradox — when topics aren’t worth discussing if they’re boring and obvious and the current topic’s a no-brainer but must be the topic of discussion.
But obviously, as a member of the set of people with a brain, I stand as one of the grand majority if not all. Brain and all, I can’t think of anything worse in the game than GL tickets. Wait, no, one thing’s definitely, unquestionably worse. But GL tickets are pretty bad. Like number two bad. Good talk.
The topic worth discussing:
What the problem is
The topic not worth discussing:
Why CG does what they do.
It’s not worth discussing because we know why. For virtually any decision, it’s safe to assume money, psychology, or a combination of the two are the reasons. Idc *why* DS/LS GL currency is in the game. I care *that* it’s in the game.
To be honest, I do think the "players" have gotten what they "deserve". As a collective, the community has put up with--and made very profitable--CG's behavior and tactics.
I hate the GL ticket system as much as the next guy, but consider how much energy (i.e. resources) the whales waste so they can hoard thousands of energy and unlock and ult GLs day 1 (not to mention the absurd $$$ for marquees and such). Non-whales have tolerated it by not quitting and whales have incentivized it to high heaven.
Outcome seems pretty deserved to me (again, in aggregate).

Alright, let’s scratch “deserve” from the record.
I will be more careful with word choice in the future.
The point I was attempting to make was:
“the player has already done quite a lot by meeting the pre-requisites. What follows is not fun or engaging and is largely just a poorly designed system to artificially increase the time between meeting the pre-reqs and unlocking the GL.”
If it just stopped there, fair enough. It’s a grindy mobile game and this is on-brand. For me, the most obvious offense is that the currency is spent regardless of outcome. Even refreshing fleet events with crystals gets an attempt and isn’t lost upon a failure. It’s losing the currency on a loss that I view to be flagrantly anti-player.

I was specifically not picking on your word choice. While agree with your sentiment that GL tix are obnoxious, I am pointing out that the market has spoken and this is what we have wrought.

There are 8 GL’s
But those events already exist and are already set.
If you're talking about future GL events, I don't know that there will ever be any.
