Are Chromium Packs worth it?

I've saved up enough crystals to get the super-duper-mega (whatever it's called) pack that gives you 8 drops and 1 guaranteed character.

I'm F2P. I've only grabbed a Chromium Pack twice before (the basic one).

At this point in the game, I've already unlocked 48/81 toons, so odds are good that I'll get toons I already have, this converting them to shards.

Is it even worth it? Under what conditions would it be?

Don't do it! It never is worth it. Refreshes are the way to go spending crystals.
There are a ton of threads explaining why.

Refreshes is the best way forward, packs are a scam and require thousands to finish characters

Depends what you're trying to do in the game. If your main goal is putting together a top level team for each of the various game modes then you'd be better off spending the crystals to refresh to get more chances at the shards for the particular characters you're farming. If you just want to unlock as many different characters as you can then you need chromium packs to get the characters that are only available from them.

I don't think it's a bad idea to get a few early on just to get some toons to help with your achievements, but to actually farm anyone you need to spend a ton...like hundreds to thousands of USD.

Nope. Coming from someone that spent too much money on them. Now I'm stuck with a huge roster of characters I don't even use.

F2P here. Been playing for 3-4 weeks. Also hit 3k crystals. Only unlocked about a dozen toons so not really hardcore. I find galactic war for shards plus the bonus, cantina runs, and arena provide a decent rate of return. Focusing on getting my nightsister squad to 7* so far so I could have more unlocks but prefer quality over quantity for now. Probably going for team teddy bear next. Oh and I actually got one toon from bronzium..Ahsoka. Granted I already had farmed and unlocked her but 15 bonus shards are still a nice bonus. Still even with a small % of the total unlocked hitting the same one really makes me have second thoughts about spending for chromium. YMMV.

If you arent spending cash, Chromiums will probably be ill-advised.

Basically what everyone else here has said. Use your prize, dailies and achievement crystals for DS/LS/Cantina refreshes (and Arena refreshes if required for top 10 prizes). You will be able to farm plenty of competitive ftp toons that way i.e. QGJ, Lumi, Phasma, GS, Old Ben, Dooku, Fives, IG86, ST Han, Daka, RG, Rey. Crystals will also be useful later for buying unobtainable gear (mk5 fusion furnance I am looking at you!!)

Chromiums only work if you are willing to spend $$$$ (like US$3 - US$5k worth), enough to bring the meta exclusive characters to 7* (Leia, Darth Maul, Aayla, Sun Fac) or save you weeks of farming meta ftp characters on hard nodes (Rey, FOTP, RG).

If you want to end up with a bunch of 5 and 6 star Chromium only characters with no chance to bring them up to full strength save spending $3-5,000 more, then by all means spend $1,000 on Chromiums.

I would say yes.

The consensus was to spend your energy on refreshes for hard nodes and I would have agreed wholeheartedly until recently. Now that rey and ewok elder are easily attainable, I feel as if my money was not well spent. Would have way rather had Leia/Rex/etc for my money

So by bad luck are you referring to the cost of $200 to 7* Sun Fac? Many would conclude that as being pretty lucky. Myself as well.

Chromium only worth it to buy during beginning of game, when you have relatively few toons...

After that, it is just a casino for entertaining your cash or enriching its maker!

Honestly, if you have a good team that doesn't need many tweaks, it's pointless to get chromiums. You basically only get them if you want another character, but then you remember you have to divvy up resources like gear and credits on them, and it's a lot better spent on an ace team of yours.(a lot of high tiers can be farmed, like QGJ) Chromium exclusive characters also take a very long time to get to 7* since the only way to get shards is, well, chromium packs and winning 1-2 shards at the end of a GW.

Over half of what you get in chrome will be useless. You can make a great team for arena from just farmable characters. If you have a lot of expendable income then go for it. But unless you spend a lot you'll just end up with a bunch of 4-6* characters. Just wait for arodium packs to appear with the exclusives you want imo
