Heroine Starter Pack - $49.99?

Why? That's the price of a video game today. That's a little excessive.

  • Because the 4* character Barriss Offee is the best healer in the game at the moment, and a very viable leader. So if you want her fast, you can pay premium for it.

That or you can farm her the normal ways through shards.
Or be like some lucky ones around here, draw her totally FREE from the bronzium data cards lol.
  • I just got her from 8x gem pack today
  • saving my gems for the 4 gem pack, hopefully I get her and Ahsoka
  • I've said several times that the price is too high. I'd value these packs at 50% of what they are currently.
  • My thoughts exactly, Powerlifter450. If the packs are priced at 50% from what they are now I would have bought a couple of them right away. I won't buy anything at all at current prices. Count the lost profits here.

Do you know how much farm it takes to get Barris? It's pretty worth it if you are looking to play competitively and get top arena. If its for fun and you aren't going to play long term, then its prob not worth getting. Its "Star Wars" I don't think there is much lost profit here, as the branding wouldn't have any problem. People will still play & buy.

It's worth $50 to buy a character to be on the top of an arbitrary leaderboard? Not very competitive if the top players paid to win.

I've no issue with folks wanting to monetarily support the game, and just happen to get stuff out of it; that is commendable. It's those that spend the money solely for the sake of obtaining viability and competitiveness, and fooling others into thinking they are accomplished; that confuses me. Wallet Warriors ftw.

Just like the people who use wall hacks and aim bots in Counter Strike, people will always do whatever it takes to claim superiority over others in any competitive arena.

If they want to spend the money to be "the best" then that's fine with me. I'll happily keep playing as a F2P player.

You know its just a head start. Once the game is out for a while, the f2p players will eventually catch up and have the same. Its just how long you want to farm to get those jedi/sith/etc. To some people, $30-$50 isn't much for their time while to others, they would rather play cause they have the time.
  • No no no don't get agitated. She is arguably the best healer. And makes a viable, but certainly not best, pvp team.

The most difficult teams I have fought do not use Barriss at all. Her total lack of any form of damage doesn't make her the 'best' character or must have in the team.

So they are simply selling a very useful characters, at a high price, to entice the ones who are willing to go for it. She is in no way, going to p2w for anyone.

*note: I do not have Barriss at all, not even close in terms of shards.

I won't reveal the magical setup right now that seems to triumph in both offense and defense, let's just say, it's a team impossible to achieve by F2P. And even if P2P, you wouldn't be able to form that team with at least half a thousand dollars (it's a setup that only works when the team is 6*/7* entirely)
  • And I like to support games I play (as a free contractor myself I know that TANSTAAFL, or, in other words, every work should be paid for), but I also want to have some in-game value in exchange (otherwise let's calla donation "donation", not "purchase). Being on" top " of an imaginary "leaderboard" doesn't worth what they ask for, if you count in price of all upgrades, too, - especially as I am quite satisfied with the place I have as F2P on the 5th day of playing ;) No, I just want to collect my SW favorites... and I can wait and farm, after all I am here for the process of playing, not for climbing scoreboards.
  • Are you at the top of a leaderboard in a mobile game because you spent a lot of money to accomplish this? You may be a winner in a small mobile game. What about where it counts, in the real world?
  • The same stupid talk, as in the other F2P games. Not all buy packets to be temporarily better than others. Some have more time and do less for our economy (GNP), others work and have more money and the prices do not care, them because they just want to have fun with their favorite characters. I think the package is worth 50 euros, because you never know obtained when buying the crystals.

Who's more likely to be doing well in the real world, someone who can drop $1000 on a game, or someone who instead spends hours every day grinding?
Let's stop all the judging. If people like being on a leaderboard, so what. Their payments are what make development possible.
Quit 7/14/16. Best of luck to all of you.

This must be your first f2p experience. This is how it is. Some people want to 'pay' to travel through the game faster, thus being stronger faster, while others either don't have the money or choose not to spend it.

I think both types are wrong. I think spending hours and hours in a game and not donating/spending on it is lame. They got to pay the developers and keep the servers up. But I also think dropping thousands on a game seems lame too, but maybe that is because I can't afford it :)

  • There's a happy medium between time and money. Some people suffer from severe mental illness and will spend all the money they can beg borrow or steal. These people have a problem with compulsion. They have issues with impulse control.

This is far from the first p2w game or board I've been involved with. I've signed many petitions to ban in game microtransactions. I'll vote in favor of laws banishing this in a heartbeat. I'm sure a few people can afford to spend a grand+ on a mobile game. Just like a few people who go to casinos are "Whales" and can afford to drop millions per year. My issue with microtransactions is that many people are like the old people at slot machines. Spending their social security checks every month and suffering because of it.

No one can convince me that p2w gaming is not the latest scourge on the planet. Developers should charge what they want for a game up front and that's it.

I've heard all the arguments in favor of the freemium game model. I disagree with every one of them and always will. I've spent money on this game. I think it's worth a small amount of money as many mobile games are. I do not feel they are worth too much.

Uh, half a thousand dollars may get you one 6* char that you like if you are lucky. Of course there are a few people who are super lucky and dupe a good char many times but in general you don't. There are say 60 chars, and on average after opening about 60 packs you get 1 char/12 shards for a char that you like and I would imagine getting say Old Ben is much rarer, so the chance of getting him is even less. Say on average after opening 100-200 packs you get him once and you need to get him like 150/32~5 times again to get 6*.

Great post. This and the lack of energy are the biggest issues with this game. Far too difficult to create a strong team without spending a significant amount.

However, this likely on purpose. Rather than create a game based off of bringing up characters to beat the content, it is a game based around beating content to try to get characters.

It's the same in all games. Spending is so far out of control, developers can't control it so they encourage it.

I was part of a top bracket team in one mobile game. Teammates gave me more Google play cash than I could use just so I would help their team. When it gets to be a job, its not fun anymore.

It's not about people wanting to be on the leaderboards; because everyone likes to win. It's about those chumps that boast about their leaderboard position, and it's obvious they paid to max out their characters.

I honestly don't care that people choose to spend money, as it supports the developers. However, when those that pay for an advantage get mad for being called what they are, they get defensive, and usually use the, "I've got money and you don't" rationalization to make themselves feel better. Those who pay in order to gain an advantage should just be open about it, and stop trying to act like it's anything more.

I've got money to spend just like everyone else, but when principle comes into play, many F2P games' microtransactions prey on the weakminded, when it's more intelligent not to feed the beast. There is a reason microtransactions are commonplace in almost EVERY game, and it's not because it greatly benefits the gamer. They know gamers are huge fools, and will pay ridiculous amount of money solely to see their internet handles on a leaderboard.

Yes.Playtime/Day here is <1h for me because energie runs out fast.
12 Energie for a Hard Mission(shards)-6 for farming mats/8 for Cantina battle.

In FF a normal Mission for mats+shard cost 4 Energie.
Spezial Mission cost 6 and Daylies 4.
You can battle timeline 10x and Battleworld 20x/Day.
You get 1 full refill each Day for free.
    Playtime 2-3h/Day.

And it's best part of the game for me. When you reach lvl 50+ this will become somewhat boring, but not that much to stop playing, so I just drop in twice a day for 20-30 min and it's ok.

It's definitely true that games like these play on those who view the game not as a fun activity but an 'achievement'. However, there are many other sorts of 'achievement's in life that are similarly meaningless to most, but meaningful to some.

I know people who spend hundreds a month on Magic cards. Other people go to casinos, or go out drinking, or spend thousands on fancy cars, or tens of thousands on fancy upgrades to their houses. All of this is stuff that someone could say is "unimportant" but is important to them.

I don't have a problem with games charging money to advance. What I don't like is the heavy randomness aspect, because this directly targets people with a gambling instinct or impulse control issues. And all of the games do it. This one so far is actually better than a lot of others, but it's still there.

  • In the end of the day, it would have been better if they just made this a pay-for game, like say $19.99 and in return, made farming characters, crystals and shards easier and inexpensive....
  • There's no way I'll spend money on busting crystals for packs. I learned that lesson in earlier games, and based off what I've received in bronze packs, I'd get nothing but shards for many different characters in the chrome. I will spend a reasonable amount on known character bundles, tho.
  • Is the assassin droid bundle for 25$ worth it?

Better for us, not better for EA. There's a guy on the Strategy forum with multiple 6-star and 7-star characters who is only level 40 or so. How much do you think he paid to get them? :)

That is a sick thought indeed but there has to be a balance between playability and profit here and with the pricing vs. drops of items as they are. People will suffer burnout for the most part with the exception of the 5% which are hard core SW fans who can't stop playing and most are not them. Most play more than one game at a time so how can one spend so much time playing this to get drops??

Another game I just quit playing, I had started last December. A guy began playing in February and had eclipsed me within 2 weeks. He freely admitted that he was buying a lot of currency for the game, though not exactly how much. I estimated that he spent over $3,000 in less than a month.
Those are the people these games are designed for, sadly: those with more dollars than sense. We are here to try to have fun, and must fully accept we can never compete with the likes of these folks.
