Lumi 1* through shipments or 4* through bronzium?

So I'm 5 shards or 1 shipment away from lumi in gw. I can finish the deal or hold out and keep drawing bronziums. I got a 4* Barriss the other day so don't have a good feeling on rarity of that pull. Secondly if I get lumi 1* and then proceed to draw a 4* will I get upgraded to full 4* or only receive 9 shards?

When you get enough shards to unlock a character they don't all unlock at 1*. 10 shard characters unlock at 1*, 25 shard characters at 2*, 50 shard characters at 3*, and 80 shard characters at 4*, no matter if you get them in packs or through shard collection.
