Is it better to save crystals to then buy packs or should I refresh battles?

Only buy packs if you are willing to spend over $1000 on them. Otherwise, you are far better off focusing on farmable characters, refreshing energy to get XP, shards and gear.

Energy is the key in my opinion. Packs give you chars that you can't upgrade easily. Also, energy gives you XP, which means faster leveling, unlocking content (specially important to reach 40 for GW), gear your toons, and keep you mire competitive in the Arena.
