Leader abilities?

I'm curious how do leader abilities work , is it just for the actual leader spot. because it makes sense if it is.
There are plenty of Character with leader abilities. ...so im wondering if the whole lot share each other s leader abilities (if there able to)this is where I'm lost right now....is that where u try to get your senergy? ! Plz help haha

1st slot in your squad is the leader ability that is active as well as anyone you choose as an ally.
