How can you tell what shard you are in?

People usually just list their shard as when they started (late april shard for example). There is a google play achievement for completing light side campaign stage 1, I use it to keep track of my start date. I assume IOS has something similar but can't say for sure.

They don't have names. If you are looking for people on your shard you can search the pvp section by doing a search on the top few players on your server
