My pledge, in response to the latest cash grab

Not only will I never spend a single crystal ever refreshing shipments in GW, I am now pledging not to spend crystals on ANY shipment refreshes in ANY mode ever, and am also ceasing the occasional crystal purchases I made for character shards in the regular shipments as well. I will also be cutting back on mission refreshes, and pushing back my next crystal pack purchase.
I'm sure nobody at CG cares, but it's the least I can do to express my annoyance at their latest completely unnecessary, anti-player cash grab.
Quit 7/14/16. Best of luck to all of you.

I never spend a dime on iOS apps. Why? I get bored with them soon...so why waste $s

I think it would be a good idea, but I never make demands I cannot enforce. We have absolutely no power here whatsoever, other than not to spend our money. So I am going to just spend less for a while.

Same. I made the occasional purchase but I am now going to be completely f2p. I'm not paying a company that does stuff like this.

I don't get it. You only get the same number of GW tokens every day anyway. It's not like you're losing out on any shards. You can only buy them a couple of times per day anyway. Or have I missed something?

The cost to refresh shipments used to be 10 GW tokens. You could refresh 40 times for the cost of 5 shards. Many people, deciding they didn't actually want to spend resources on the tusken raider or whatever, were stockpiling tokens hoping something else more interesting would be put in there. They would have been able to use up their stockpiles relatively quickly. Now they can't unless they spend a fortune in crystals. (Which I refuse to do on principle now anyway.)
I do think only 10 tokens was probably too generous, but to go from that to 50 crystals is just a complete cash grab.
And of course, they had to spring this on us with absolutely no warning, as usual.

I've never been much for purchases. This is actually the 2nd app that I've paid for or paid for IAPs. (first one being Monument Valley and its expansion, TOTALLY worth it, though now it's free through Amazon! ;)) But seeing how the tendency is to increase everything, and hinder the gameplay time, to incentive more crystal purchases, has really hold me back a lot by doing the next purchase.

New missions released keep being more expensive in energy costs. Refreshes costs keep doubling to incoherent amounts. And packs are just a huge gamble. Then low drop rates, high amount of grinding needed, and frustrations on arena or GW just takes care of the rest. XD

I see 0 ROI most of the time, apart from the Heroine Bundle, which was a bit overpriced too, but compared to regular purchases, and the amount of time or money that it'd have been needed for those, it was "worth" it.

Is it possible they're doing this because their monthly financials are looking bad? When your company isn't doing well it's very common to try and nickel and dime your customers to make your balance sheet look a little better and show revenue growth.

    Secondary thought:
This is a business and if the business doesn't do well they may decide that 70% margins aren't high enough to keep the doors open.

Monument Valley was super cool. :)
I've spent a fair bit on this game, not nearly as much as some, but enough that some people would consider it strange. This is my entertainment, I spend virtually no money on myself, I don't drink or gamble or have an Xbox or go out to fancy restaurants. So if I want to spend $99 a month on a big crystal vault or whatever, who cares, people spend more than that at Starbucks.
But when they pull crap like this, which is so obviously just another short-term way to try to make money, the only relevant response I can come up with is to spend less. Well, aside from raging on the forums for an hour or two, of course. ;)

What a pressure on them... You are not happy, at all it seems, but you continue to spend (less but still) and only for a while.

    huuumokay!

Indeed it was. I've played MV and its expansion + Ida's Dream level to completion a lot of times, and every time I get a new device, I make sure to complete it again. :) I love sharing the phone with friends and see their faces when they play it.

Back on topic: I haven't spend much, considering USD are really, REALLY hard to get and really, REALLY expensive in my country, unless you're a freelancer who can earn a real currency for their hard time work. Just so you make an idea, considering what I've spend on this game, while isn't much, ~$100, it could've easily mean two months of descent living, or one month of living relatively good.

Compared with what I get instead in game (nothing, just "more" game time), is a bit of a nonsense. Trying to avoid purchases at all costs lately. Moves like this help a lot at least.

I'm on board with this. I've bought a couple of crystal subscriptions, a couple chests, and the dark side starter pack but I'm not cool with being nickel and dimed at every turn. My wallet is closed to the Galaxy of Heroe$!

    I agree with you @Qeltar
This move felt really, really cheap to me. It's left a bad taste in my mouth. Where I otherwise would be excited to spend more money on a game I've been really enjoying, this has taken the wind outta my sails and makes me want to think twice about giving them another cent of mine.

Also with a new shard exchange coming you could potentially stockpile shares for a toon you already have at seven stars. For that purpose I think the change is justified.

Look I know it's a slap in the face. But you should have guessed this was going to happen.
It's been bugged. Just 1 of the many posts on this https://forums.galaxy-of-heroes.starwars.ea.com/discussion/8298/war-token-refresh-bug-wrong-currency-asked-for#latest
I'm not saying your wrong for feeling the way you do. I do feel sorry you got an unwanted prostate exam. Unfortunately when items requiring currency is bugged CG is going to take the easiest least consumer friendly way to fix it.

I'll put this out here for future concern The Shard Shop will use a crystal refresh system too. The signs point to it.

They could have just stopped you from buying shards you already have maxed out. They are either sleezy or just not very bright.

Just noticed this, being able to quickly get 15 shards a day for your toon was my favorite aspect on this!

I'll have to reluctantly agree to not spend another penny either, this is ridiculous.

if this game wasn't called "star wars", it would not be where it's at today, and they profit from us in any way shape or form because of it.

it's a shame... look at Clash of Clans, they make so much money, yet don't cheap out on their players like this game does.

That is the worst business model you use, yes it might get the numbers to look nice here and now, but that model usually goes to people spending there money somewere else, classic business 101 on how not to run a business, when there are others that can provide a similar product

For what it's worth EA is notoriously greedy on all their apps and games lol.

And considering we don't know the specifics of the shop (as far as I know anyway), this could be in vain. It might be made only 5 shards a day per toon may be used or some low arbitrary number. Who knows, at present I don't have much positive thoughts about future things goh related.

Anyway, I can't understand the frustration concerning GW shipment refreshes, but I'm not someone who has the luxury to stockpile tokens.
But people, by the droves, will nevertheless spend money on this game, encouraging CG to make these, in the kindest way of describing it, bizarre changes. Maybe if the whales united to not spend money? But how could we ever convince them to do that lol.

The low price packs and subs won me over, and despite never paying for IAP previously, I enjoyed the game enough to support it.

The $100 TFA bundle made me think twice about the direction of the game. The increased price of crystal sub made me wince.

This obvious cash grab makes me vow to not spend again. My few dollars won't be missed, but I can't bring myself to support obvious greed.

I recently watched another game go down this exact same road. That one has a cache of invested whales, and a continuos turnover of players attracted by the franchise, lured by the game mechanics into purchases, and eventually leaving the game.

I'd hoped that Disney wouldn't allow such predatory practices, but understand the licensing isn't continually approved. If there isn't a gigantic mea culpa from the developers over this, I take it as a sign that the game is destined for the same result, despite being a much more established franchise.

Minus a sign that the developers really are going to try to be more player friendly, I think I'm not just done with purchases, but these kinds of franchise games entirely.

The freemium franchise based game model is horribly broken in general, but is just a quagmire of purposeful opportunistic questionable ethics.

Hopefully, the industry will mature eventually...but it won't be while the "get them invested and then squeeze" business model is still lucrative. If you object, you have to take a stand and take your money away.

Maybe that's the reasoning behind the change. We can only speculate, as their comunication protocol sucks.
