You need to compare pictures of smoke with mace, not the actors.
Doesn't mace get a scar on his face in the same spot as smoke?

That was kind of the point of my OP. Theres no reasonable explanation for snoke to be a pre-existing character. Even if they came up with some super convoluted reasoning, it would just be fan service.

They are going to have to give some sort of exposition on him though. Clearly he has quite a bit of knowledge which (unfortunately) means he likely had some sort of significance or involvement in previous events. This opens episode 8 up to possibly making some plot holes in the saga so that snoke's character makes sense.
