Advice for CLS Prep

CLS has come and gone, and I was nowhere near ready. So I've decided to go ahead and start my CLS prep for next time now, so that I will have plenty of time for anything I need to do.
Where I'm currently at: 5* G6 Luke, 5* G7 STHan, 5* G7 R2, no Old Ben, no Leia.
Basic plan: 7* R2 will require 7* Empire (Palp(L), Vader, Tarkin, Thrawn, RG); farm Luke from Cantina node, buy Luke and OB shards from guild store whenever available, transition to OB Cantina farm once Luke reaches 7*; Farm STHan from Arena store until he reaches 7*, then same with Leia.
Questions: What Gear levels and Ability levels do I need to shoot for in these characters? (Same question for Empire for R2 event as well.) Will I need any Omegas/Zetas to complete the event?

I would appreciate any advice that anyone has to offer. Even strategy advice or suggested changes to my plan would be great.
Thanks in advance!

  • Here's a great resource for planning out your farms.

    Now, let's have a look:

Given your level, and the state of your Phoenix team, I'd suggest you pick out a Plan B Empire character to build up in the event that you don't succeed in seven starring Thrawn this time around. Don't bother investing resources into that character until after the event has ended, or you know whether or not you can do it. If you can, no harm no foul--and you're one step closer to R2-D2!--and if you can't you won't have to panic over what you're going to do for for R2 now and whether or not Thrawn will be back again before R2-D2 (hint: probably not).

To maximize your chances for Thrawn: sort out your ability levels--everything to at least 7--and push hard for level 80--82 if you can manage it for Chopper--so that you can upgrade your team's unique abilities. I'd say do Zeb first, then Ezra, then Hera, then Kanan, and lastly Chopper. After that attend to your mods; ideally you'll want more speed for everyone (I'd say: Ezra, Hera, Chopper/Zeb, Kanan), as much protection as you can get on Kanan and Hera (don't sacrifice speed for protection with Hera), and as much protection/potency as you can get on Zeb (don't slow him down too much, though). Your gear is probably fine unless you can't sort out your ability levels; if possible push the team to G9.

    Now, for R2-D2...

Honestly, as long as your Palpatine, Vader--and Thrawn if you get him--are strong you should be fine for R2-D2. I did it on my first attempt with: G8, lv. 85 Palpatine; G8, lv. 85 Vader; G8, lv. 80 Stormtrooper; G8, lv. 75 Colonel Starck; G6. lv. 65 Magmatrooper (I wasn't going to be able to finish Tarkin in time; have a Plan C). I don't recall whether--or how many--omegas I had on Palpatine and Vader (I've since invested in them for my arena team) at the time, but the less effective members of the team survived long enough for me to take out Raid Han, Leia, and R2-D2... and left Vader soloing the last three (that rework tho).

G8 should be fine, assuming you have decent mods and your ability levels are on point. I'd also suggest picking up Vader in the fleet store whenever you have the chance.

    For CLS:

I don't believe I've put anymore resources in these guys--I did steal mods for them--since the CLS event, so here's the squad I used: https://swgoh.gg/u/catharsis478/squads/61820/

Your problem here is going to be managing your farms so that you have enough time to level, gear, and/or upgrade their ability levels. As you can see I ran out of time--and I probably blew omega materials and gear I didn't need to use in order to finish the event--and I honestly would have preferred to have the chance to get the entire teams' ability levels to 7 (R2-D2 is a pain to gear, btw, especially when doing it on a time-crunch; I only unlocked him a couple days before getting CLS). Aim for G8--G9 for Han isn't a bad idea, he isn't that hard to get there--and level 7 abilities; don't be afraid to steal your good mods.

Note: as much protection as you can get on Han, and as much speed as you can get on R2-D2 and Leia (him faster than her).

As far as general farming advice goes--and because it seems like you're trying to get ready for BB-8, too--you're going to want to balance your farms and figure out what does and doesn't conflict and, if it does, how to deal with it. For example: Luke, Old Ben, Kylo Ren, and Kylo Ren (Unmasked) all conflict with one another in the cantina. Either you focus on them one at a time, or you pick two (more than that kind've becomes a clusterkitten) and alternate (I do each star level). You have an additional option in this case because Luke and Old Ben also show up periodically in the guild store. If you don't have a pressing farm--and it looks like you're building FOSFTFP there--you can technically work on all four characters at once.

For this specific example I didn't utilize the guild store--I believe I was working on Starck at the time--and simply picked two and alternated. I did Kylo Ren and Old Ben at the same time, then did KRU and Farmboy. I did the same thing for the squad arena store and alternated between Han and Leia until I had both at 7 stars, then moved on to Tarkin (now you see why I was late!). If you doubt you can get all four done in time--whatever method you use--then focus on the team for the character you want more.

Make use of the resource I linked above, good luck!

Thank you so much--that's incredibly helpful!! I appreciate you taking the time.

  • I was indeed prepping for BB-8, but I had decided to halt all FO farming until I'm prepped for CLS. Do you think that works? The main reason I decided to stop is that I have almost none of the RJT characters, so even if I tried, I don't think I could get her next time she comes around.

BB-8 is a great raid character, if nothing else. He's worth getting, even if you're going to miss out on RJT this time (and you can't really farm for her until you're level 83, anyway). I'd still focus hard on the character you want most--which I assume is CLS--and if you can balance your farms in a way you're ready for BB-8 too? Might as well.
  • I'll do my best to get FO farming back into the mix. I do actually have BB-8 already, but only 5*.

  • Old Ben might take you awhile, even assuming you refresh Cantina energy, to grind. Leia and Han are pretty easy grinds in arena store. Luke can be annoying to grind but it’s alright. They all need to be at least Gear 9 to work. Han and Leia need extremely good mods and high speed. I only omega’d Leia’s Leadership ability, everyone else was 7 (except for R2, who I had at gear 10 with all omegas). Luke needs crit chance so he can stun. It took me a couple of tries but I unlocked CLS
  • Plan B Empire toon won't be needed for Thrawn--I 7-starred him!! =D

    Congratulations, Yerff! Good job!
  • Thanks!! It was much harder than I expected, even after everything I read about it. :p

  • Gear levels for Team Luke are aI would aim for G9 for team Luke. G8 for Old Ben. Give Leia and R2 more if it comes down to choosing. They will do the heavy lifting in phase 7.

Just know that minimum investment is something of a trap. It's always wise to aim higher to give yourself a pad.

Particularly on Han, Leia, and R2, as they're very useful units elsewhere. Obi Wan is also useful, but isn't part of the hardest fight of the journey.
    Still not a he.
  • Omegas wise I needed two on Leia (combine to massively increase damage) and Luke’s special (dispel is needed on the final stage)
  • Do I need to upgrade all four leader abilities as well? Will I really use them all?

    Not all of them.

The most important and difficult fight is the last one, and Old Ben isn't a part of it, so pick one of the other three. I went with ST Han's. I also found Ben's useful earlier, but not as important.

  • Do I need to upgrade all four leader abilities as well? Will I really use them all?

Most people either go with STH's leader (I did), or Leia's.

Leias leadership is best but theres a han and fbl only stage that can be difficult so sth would make sense.
  • So I've got G9 Old Ben and STHan. Everyone else G8. Gearwise, is there any more I should really consider doing, or can I focus my gear farming elsewhere now?

  • for gear you're probably fine though maybe borderline. i did it with all g8 but it was admittedly rough and took several attempts. having han at g9 as you do would have been a great help.

Another gear level for R2-D2 or Leia wouldn't be amiss, but you're probably safe to move on.
  • Sounds good. I'll probably try for R2 G9.
    Thanks guys!

  • Ok, I've now got G9 R2. I'm still steadily working on shards and taking all the abilities to level 7.
But something just occurred to me--Mods. I haven't modded any of these characters yet. What kind of Mods do I need?

Generally, the advice is to just move your arena mods over to the OT team.

Generally, speed is essential on everybody. Luke and especially Leia need to do lots of murder, so crit chance/crit damage. Some potency for R2. As much protection as you can possibly pile on for Han.
    Still not a he.
  • yeah lots of protection for han and all the speed you can muster for leia and r2. i had the speed for those 2 around 200 when i did it. don't want to spoil too much but keep in mind you won't need all the toons at any one point in the process, so you don't have to have enough mods for all of them at once.

It isn't spoilers at this point to say Ben dies. Particularly since it's already been mentioned.
    Still not a he.
  • I've figured out by now that the story follows the movie. I know Ben dies. :p

  • right i wasn't referring specifically to ben dying, rather that even before that there is no one stage requiring all of them at once.
