  • Am I the only one who still wants Rey and Finn to be a thing?

  • Finn have not met Rey much in Episode 8, instead it's Kylo
  • If you want to make it difficult
Maybe the old characters will come out together as a team or Darth Vader returns? lol
  • I feel like a lot of the criticism about Rose's character is that she was portrayed in the beginning as a nobody Mechanic/Resistance Fangirl, but then goes out on a pretty pointless, failure of an adventure, and ends up crashing a huge casino, escaping the....Space Cops? (whoever they were), then infiltrating a First Order ship, getting caught, and still escaping, and then somehow managing to get a ship that's rickety and falling apart to go fast enough to sideswipe another rickety ship that was bearing full force into certain death. Then comes the totally awkward, uninvited, and unwarranted cringe kiss to Finn, who looked about as confused and put off as the audience probably was. The worst part about all of this is even though she was wholly unqualified for any of the stuff she did, she still did a better job of it than Finn. Without Rose, Finn would probably be dead several times over (at least once for sure).

Still, after watching the movie and coming to terms with the direction they're taking the franchise, she's definitely one of the least annoying aspects of the movie. They could have made her more enjoyable by just saying that she was some kind of adventurer or something instead of just a mechanic, then all of her exploits might have been a bit more justifiable.

Yeah, I know it's a fantasy movie about space wizards (or at least it used to be), but up until this point most of the heroes/heroines have been adventurers/smugglers/Jedi/at the very least Force Sensitive, so seeing them get into extremely dangerous situations and coming out alive wasn't that far-fetched, but when you can literally send anyone onto a First Order ship and have them make it back alive, it makes you wonder just how much of a threat these so-called "villains" really are.

As for predictions for the next one? Eh....The last installment felt like it should have been the end of the trilogy, I can't imagine where the characters will go next that wouldn't be incredibly predictable and boring. I kinda feel like we're back where we were before we even watched The Force Awakens because we don't really know anything interesting about any of the characters involved, and I personally don't really care about what happens to them because they haven't done anything to endear themselves to me. At least back in those halcyon days we could dream of a Leia+Han+Luke reunion, but unfortunately that will never be.
  • Yeah sure
Rose made a bad plot to the movie, otherwise the others' plot is better
If Rose didn't prevent Finn to sacrifices himself, then Luke will not need to sacrifice himself by projecting a Force Projection...
and he will still be on Ahct-To playing with Porgs, storytelling with Yoda.....
  • At least back in those halcyon days we could dream of a Leia+Han+Luke reunion, but unfortunately that will never be.

I feel like they missed an opportunity to bring us to Rey and Finn's story through that reunion somehow.

They missed all kinds of opportunities with that reunion, to be sure. There were a dozen different tie ins that could have been done that would have better endeared us to the new characters, but to be honest, I'd have settled for the original three coming together and dancing to "Yub Nub" again.
  • Yeah.
I bet there will appear another old characters
What I really want is Ahsoka Tano and Ezra Bridger!

I've heard that the TLJ book hints at Hux vying to become the Big Bad. Have this feeling in the next movie, he'll make a move to backstab Ren, and Ren will flee and re-think his past actions while in exile.

But if that's the case, they really should have played up Hux more in TLJ. He came across more like a smarmy Harry Potter villain than a mastermind to be feared like Thrawn or Tarkin.

Right. But apparently, in the book, there's this Force vs Tech rivalry between Kylo and Hux. Hux was meant to be this genius with all these new weapons and such, and he thought his weapons were far superior to the Force and that he was the much more valuable asset to Snoke. Sorta the same thing as Vader and Tarkin, but... not quite as believable with the characters as depicted on-screen. And in the books, the reader was evidently given insight into Hux thinking to himself that he hopes to be Supreme Leader himself one day.

So... if the movie plays out what the books are setting up... Hux will probably somehow find out Kylo killed Snoke, and he'll use it to oust the new Supreme Leader. If it does go that way, though... the next movie better really play Hux's ruthlessness up.
  • Prediction I:
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Fallen Empire
Five years after The Last Jedi the Resistance is no longer centralized and is not a popular idea among the galaxy. Kylo Ren’s rule over the galaxy is seen by most as benevolent. Many within the Resistance itself are questioning why they should even be fighting.

Not surprisingly, Rey, Poe, Finn, Rose, and Leia are all still holding fast to the idea the galaxy should not be under empirical rule.

They are tipped off by a mole inside the First Order promising that if they follow their lead, they will discover the horrifying true nature of the First Order.

The tip leads them to a planet in the unknown regions, and they must infiltrate a First Order command station to extract a young female alien prodigy who is the key to navigating these regions.

After a successful rescue of the girl who is essentially a prisoner of the First Order, they discover a planet entirely comprised of an ocean. Beneath its waters is the secret to the First Order’s unlimited resources, an ancient manufacturing station literally powered by the populations of conquered worlds of the unknown regions.

This entire first plot revolves around liberating the captives before they are exterminated and exposing these horrors to the galaxy at large. This plot is resolved with the Unknown Regions becoming united and preparing for war with the known regions.

The second plot revolves around Kylo Ren hunting down other Force users in secret using the Knights of Ren and trying to discover the mole among his ranks. At the end of the film it’s revealed Hux is the mole and is trying to get the galaxy to revolt against Ren’s empire and believes he can claim the throne after the fallout.

Many Force users have sought out Rey for protection, both really young and really old.

Rey and Kylo still converse through the force and can even manifest their whole presence in front of each other. It is slowly revealed they secretly love each other.

The big reveal in the film is that one of Rey’s “students” is actually her child, and Kylo becomes so enraged upon finding this that he nearly kills Rey who is only saved last minute by Leia.
  • It's entirely a nice plot for a prediction @JuliusSkywalker I like it
  • Qui Gon wakes up and tells master yoda, if you want to save the galaxy, do exactly what I say. Kinda like Nick Cage in Next, but without Nick Cage.
  • I hope they add the characters from the series like Rebels or Clone Wars. I want Rey to be trained by Ezra! Or Ahsoka!

That would be cool. Haven't watched season 4 of Rebels yet, still don't know if Ahsoka survived Vader...

I want to so bad, just have to wait for it to come to a library near me. I'm one step above a certain community that shuns technology, but with a decent internet connection at work.

I used to get excited talking about future movie theories and predictions - to be honest, after TLJ and Solo, I really don't care. I know a lot of people who say they are fans feel the same way - and I am the biggest fan I know. I really don't care and that is really sad to admit.

If JJ had setups ignored by Johnson, I hope JJ can bring it back. Kylo only said Rey's parents were nobodies - but the trick is they were both being manipulated by Snoke's visions - perhaps this is a major plot point that could be turned around by JJ - but I won't hold my breath.

I don't hold any kind of excited feelings, but I will go see the movies when I have some time and spending cash lying about. I owe Mr. Lucas that much.

I wonder what the actual thread will be in Ep. 9. Rey's already shown she can beat Kylo, and besides, I'm having a hard time envisioning Kylo as the Big Bad. Hux is certainly not Big Bad quality. Phasma is gone.
There aren't any other Big Bad Guys that are anywhere as menacing as Vader, Palpatine, or Tarkin.

Rey and Kylo realize the galaxy is a huge place and that both philosophies can coexist without destroying the other.

    Ok - I'll bite, I got one.

If Abrams holds true to the Rey parent idea barfed out in TLJ by Johnson (being that Rey is only powerful in the force to balance the power of Kylo).

Kylo is incredibly evil in this next episode - like we have never seen him before.

Rey finally defeats him - and upon Kylo's death she loses her connection to the force. She was only a Mary Sue and powerful in the force as the force allowed it to be. Without Kylo, there is nothing to balance in the force.

Her biggest fall - is that she was merely a pawn of the force itself - correcting the creation of the Skywalker lineage - that such power should never be in the hands of mere force users who can shape the galaxy in such a way.

We will see Rey fall and accept that she is truly nothing at the end. But finds peace in this revelation as the galaxy is once again at peace.

There - that's how this ST should end.

Finn is in the "Friend Zone" he should "settle" for Rose.
  • I still don't get the hate for Rose. I really like Finn so what she did was HUGE. Although I'd prefer Finn and Rey to end up together. And her quote about love is what will save the galaxy or whatever it was, is a very powerful quote. Was she crucial to the story? Maybe not, but how many characters outside of the main like 6 are??

As for predictions on episode 9...no idea. But something about the rebels trying to come up with a plan to sway the balance of the war with the first order. Probably another Rey vs Kylo fight. Finn and Rose will probably be a thing to my dismay.

My prediction is the same as I predicted for Rogue One, Last Jedi, and Solo: It's going to be a very good, enjoyable movie that I'll like and kids will love, and the parts of the internet that I always get forum warnings for when I specify their identity, so I'm just going to say that we all know who they are, will go BERSERK THAT THIS IS A WORSE TRAVESTY THAN GHOSTBUSTERS AND THEIR CHILDHOOD IS RUINED AND EVERYTHING IS AWFUL.

That isn't to say, to be clear, that the four new movies are beyond reproach. They're as flawed as any of the six that came before them. But the tenor of the "criticism" of these new movies has, by and large, never been about the actual movies. I was on a road trip with a friend a couple weeks ago and we talked about the new movies and how she didn't really like them, but couldn't say so because all the criticism of the movie out there was so blatantly and loudly rooted in misogyny that it took over the sphere.

Like, I get it--it's okay to not like these movies! I go to the movies all the time and see things that I'm not into. What I don't do, after that, is write long thinkpieces about how the things I don't like should be changed so that I like them, and that the only reason I didn't like them is because of the changes they made to include other folks who weren't me.
    Ceterum censeo Patientia esse meliat.
  • Yeah I know there is a lot of Star Wars haters out there (especially when I read people commnets on YouTube videos that discuss anything about TLJ or Rian Johnson's new Trilogy or some hoax news that support their boycott to the Star Wars franchise) that hate the franchise's acquisition by Disney and especially to Kathleen Kennedy with their own reasons.

But what I want to say is, Star Wars is not dead, yet, if the story goes like this, the survivabillity of the franchise is still guaranteed for long, but people who hate it just want Star Wars stories to go as what they want, didn't care what people saying. For example, the partition of the Star Wars stories, 'Canon' and 'Legends', is just perfect! Because the 'Canon' has more deeper and realistic stories, like 'the Chosen One will destroy the Sith' propecy which everyone think it is Luke who is the hero of the OG trilogy, but it turns out to be Darth Vader the Lord of the Sith (the main antagonist on the OG trilogy) himself by defeating the Emperor and redeems himself means that the Sith (because of the Rule of Two) are completely defeated, not like in 'Legends' where Han Solo son will turned out as a new Sith Lord, while in 'Canon' Han's son, Kylo Ren, turned out to be a Dark Side Force Wielder, but not a Sith, because the Sith had been destroyed by Kylo's own Grandfather, so that makes the prophecy surely fulfilled.

And for the New Trilogy, me myself didn't consider The Last Jedi to be a teribble movie (I now someone or many would be mad at me, yes I know), it had a unpredictable endings; First, when Kylo kills his master Snoke, everyone didn't expect it, 'Why a Dark Lord that had a mysterious origin like that died that fast?', or if they had predicted that Snoke will die and expect that Kylo will turned to the Light Side just like Darth Vader has done, 'Why didn't he turned back and even asked Rey to join him to the Dark Side?', and people cannot expect that the legendary Luke Skywalker will died not because of a Lightsaber.

The Last Jedi is a good movie, maybe not the best in the saga but it is still worth it...Rogue One, Solo, is good too! I love everything new about Star Wars, the new trilogies, Star Wars Story, the animated series, and I cannot wait for Episode IX where everything about Skywalker....will end, and also for the upcoming Star Wars Resistance animated series.

    But there is one thing...
One thing I hate on the new movies...in Solo, they made Lando a pansexual (even though it was not mentioned in the movie), which I really disappointed, Lando once was one of my favorites back then in the OG trilogy, if under the new management Star Wars done again something like this....I would say that thing is not 'Canon' in my viewpoint of Star Wars

Anyway, stay on the Light Side of Star Wars, don't blame it because it didn't fit what did you want the story will, and May the Force be with You!

Rose was an unnecessary character, although I like her more than Finn. Finn just rambles on and is kinda useless. His character could've been more.

It is easy to say why the new movies are garbage or at the very least why fans are upset with them. It goes beyond any ****-like statements made in your posts, however for simplistic thinking fans you points are pretty accurate.

Check out my points here in this thread - these are the issues why true fans are upset with Disney's take on the franchise. I will not repost here, because apparently my posts were too political resulting in a warning, but frankly - star wars has become a political issue and is therefore impossible to have even a civil debate or discussion on these forums, without speaking to any political issues, so I'll just post the thread link for you to follow here:

It goes beyond the last jedi, but that movie was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

Solo may be a "good movie" but too many politics etc. kept people away - it is the fall movie of the new Disney take on the franchise.

E9 needs to be truly amazing. Abrams needs to realize the weight of the project he has to put out or the franchise is doomed.
