Emotional, Meaningful Songs

I was curious to know the songs that mean the most to you. They can be for any reason. As long as it has a deep meaning to you and/or if it makes you emotional. Personally, The Last Goodbye by Billy Boyd (Emotional), O Children by Nick Cave (Meaningful), and Father and Son by Cat Stevens (Both).

Replies

  • Also I See Fire by Ed Sheeran (Meaningful) and Piano Man by Billy Joel (Kind of a Mix)
  • Pink Floyd Hey You is stuck in my head, but I think it is a meaningful song.
  • Youth by the band Daughter is really emotional and deep, Somebody to Stay by Vancouver Sleep Clinic, and Sick of Losing Soulmates by Dodie Clark are both emotional as well. When the Day Met the Night by Panic! at the Disco is deep, Wild World (originally by Cat Stevens, I prefer the Skins Cast cover) is emotional, and Hero of War by Rise Against is very deep and emotional

I'd say Man of the hour by pearl jam (from Big fish.... emotional, i don't listen to it often -makes me sad beyond relief); The Spirit Tree by Gareth Co () cker (deep & emotional, but in a good way). One that would be deep for me is the main theme from morrowind.
Mmmmmh got too many songs that fit the description to me - stargazing (reflecting upon life, it always comes back to my mind) , The last soul (whenever i feel out of place), The last goodbye (Clamava de profundis, i always think of this song when i'm about to do something really dangerous), "you" (steve martin - listen to it and you'll understand), The way (instrumental from zack hemsey, because i'm pretty sure how i'll die- it fits perfectly), Romance in the air (piano), ...

Each day i listen to songs that carry meanings for me, each song can make me happy, sad, or even both. I'm never listening to random songs from other people or to the radio. I'm pretty sure it's the same for everybody though.

Queen - "Who wants to live forever" My younger brother loved the TV series "Highlander". This song featured in it many times. I cry everytime I hear it, as my lil Brother is gone now. Just the opening few bars is enough.. Dan Fogelberg - "Leader of the Band" is linked to my Father. I had moved away, across country and got wrapped up in my new life. Heard this song and called him and told him I loved him. He just sat quiet for a bit. But it is a good memory, not sad.

Heard it for the first time about 2 days after I was randomly fired. Listened to it every day until I found my new (way better) job a 3 months later. David Draiman's voice really spoke me.
#CloneHelmets4Life...VICTORY!!!! "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere." The more you tighten your grip, CG/EA, the more whales will slip through your fingers (and go F2P or quit).

Seriously powerful song. Even Paul Simon reached out to compliment him for the cover, and recommended it.

Epic song. Completely different than the original. Love how it is a darker version, and the build up is amazing. This is one of a very few songs, where the cover blew the original out of the water. Another good one is Hurt by Johnny Cash.
  • This one grabs me, the power in it..

Interesting. The House Music/Techno style is a unique way to create the effect. I did find myself closing my eyes at time, to focus on the lyrics. Visually you are drawn so many places within the video. None of this is bad, just a bit of sensory overload for me. But that may have been the goal. I can't help but mention the lead here so reminds me of a young David Bowie. As a fan of his, I smiled at my first look to see perhaps some glimpse of his effect on music living on, if only in my mind. Thank you for sharing this!

Kitaro's music tends to be a emotional vampire, it pulls to the surface how you are feeling. Some say a piece is sad others happy. Try it you'll see. Back in the day I worked in a Radio Shack as a computer specialist. On a slow day an older gentleman came in wanting to hear music on the latest innovation, a CD player. I qued this music and stepped back, after it finished, I stepped in closer and he was crying. I never forgot that.

As an artists the lyrics speaks a lot to me. The yearning, striving to yield something unique and making a mark is the leading emotion of my life.

I guess I'm pretty much used to sensory overloads, the video looks simple and effective to me :D.

We started writing Monument after playing around with a software that can stretch short bits of music into billions of years of sound. It made total sense to me that Max wanted to explore this floating feeling and mediation in the video... "

I think the fractal realm leading to universe (around the middle of the song) corresponds to the innerverse of a person. The emphasis on stretched sound is especially over there.

I read a short interview with them, and when asked if they had a style icon:

"Where did you buy your shoes? Who are your style icons?
Robyn: Rick Owens made these shoes, but I put the sole on it. I do it with this guy in L.A. called Andre No. 1, who makes shoes for KISS and Prince and stuff. So I just buy shoes and I stack ‘em with him.
Berge:. I cannot admit to having a style icon. Can I throw in David Bowie? I like Ziggy. ".

So... there ya go I guess lol

I think the visuals need to blend more, but I'm being fussy. It's a wonderful journey. Love the use of fractals, the closer you get to a fractal image the more you see. The lead also sounds a bit like Madonna. Not saying any of this is intentional, just sayin..
  • Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd has always had meaning to me. Kind of the way my mother raised me.

And Johnny Cash's Hurt cover mentioned by Chucko above would also be there. Being a huge Cash fan, watching that video in the context of his life and the proximity to his death always brings up some man tears.

Free Bird! That song has tried it's best to get me speeding tickets. I just go.....

Great White, Afterglow (1991). Just discovered today that this song was originally recorded by Small Faces in 1968-69. I like the GW version better.

Great White was/is a Led Zepplin'esque band. 2 seconds of hearing the lead you can hear the resemblance to Robert Plant :) Wow.. hadn't thought about them in years..

I just turned 60 and remember singing "Boy named Sue" with a classmate in elementary school for some project. Being 60, puts this song (Hurt) on an entirely new level for me as well.

Trent Reznor talks about Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt".

Also We'll Meet Again, sang a few months before his passing...
