borrowing an ally and making them leaders?

Some of the folks who are generous enough to give out their ally codes for strong toons request that we put them in leadership roles for cantina, ls, etc. How do I do this? I think I'm restricted to have them in the "add ally" part of the select squad screen. Is there a workaround for this?

Characters in the ally slot who have a leadership ability will automatically apply it to the whole squad. You can have 2 leader abilities active in missions that allow borrowing an ally.

In order for your leader to be available for allies, you must put that character in the lead and go into a battle with them on the appropriate table. Then your allies can borrow them for their battles.
