With 168 characters to farm, and more certainly on the way, can we please get guaranteed shard drops on the holotable?

  • Lol, no. They would never do that, it's not profitable.
  • Haha man, I feel sorry for the newer players.... how do you ever get to a point of unlocking most of them? Let alone gearing any of them...

Don't you think guaranteed returns would incentivize people to spend/spend more?

Nope. Not having the characters incentivized people to spend. Garbage drop rates on single hard nodes makes sure that situation lasts as long as possible.
  • Well, you wouldn’t necessarily have to guarantee them at the same unit cost. You could guarantee the drop, but change the energy cost to compensate. If you make a 20 node cost 60 but guarantee the shard, then on the average you haven’t changed anything for the player other than take out the element of chance. But do we want that?

I for one would rather know exactly what I'm getting, but the randomness taps into systems of the brain involved in addiction. It's annoyingly random on purpose.
  • I would like practice battles of raids and such that drop bronzium cards

They would make the drop rate 100% and then make sure you got 1/4 shards.

  • Darn! The title of the thread made me think you had an amazing mod set of pure speed. I wish people would word their titles a little more specifically.
Participation trophy? No. You want something: earn it.

Let's say you started playing the game today and you were getting, say, twenty shards per day on a guaranteed drop rate; it would still take just over two weeks to fully star one character. That means approximately twenty-four characters per year, and about seven years to get all characters if you don't get shards from other places. I really don't think people would stop trying to get shards in other ways when you look at it like that. Even accounting for the maybe thirty characters that you can get in the stores it's at least a five year wait to get all characters if you did nothing but farm the holotable. So I'm not sure it follows that people would not be spending if that drop rate occurred.

Ha. You're math is way off.

You can get well over double that number of characters from shops. 70-80 or more just from a rough count. Also we get absurd amounts of old character shards from assault battles and other events. I have a second account that has tons of unlocked characters I've never farmed because of freebies. That's one area the devs have been pretty generous.

Also, 100% drops would have to be absurdly expensive to hold to 20 shards a day. As cheap as refreshes are people would just do a few dollars worth of refreshes a day to get characters maxed instead of the hundreds of dollars that are forking over now. CG is making millions a month off of $200-400 toons. They won't throw away all that whale milk. Never gonna happen.

My math maight be a bit off, but I've been playing daily for about two years now, and I still have about 90 characters between two and six stars; most of them in the three/ four star category, and about thirteen characters still locked. And this still does not account for all the characters that will likely get released in the next couple of years. I imagine that there are plenty of spenders out there that would still whale on the game to bypass three/four years of farming.

Yes they would whale out. But instead of costing $50,000 to $100,000 to make up years of time they could spend way less. What you're proposing is never going to happen. It's absurd. It's like asking why BMW doesn't sell cars for $50 since they would get more customers.

There are highly skilled data analysts and in-game economy specialists at game companies like this whose job is to figure what the optimal prices and reward structures are to squeeze the most out of us. 100% drops will never happen unless refresh costs shoot up to a point that completely cancels out the benefits. You're asking why they want to keep making millions per month when they could give stuff away for almost nothing. Not happening.

Also you aren't supposed to have everything maxed. Tons of launch day players don't.
