Unpopular opinion I know, but I find I enjoy the GCers a great deal more now that I know they're not getting preferential treatment any longer. I even watch some of their videos now (not the shameless 15 minute read a kit I can read for myself stuff though), and find them somewhat amusing in a certain way. Before, I refused to watch anything on any GC channel out of sheer obstinate refusal to endorse the program.

100% agree. Before it was just a platform to spout the virtues of buying packs for the next marquee character - now tho the reviews are much more balanced and are quicker to criticize too

I don't care why it is, it's a good change. The first place information is posted should *always* be through an official channel, people shouldn't have to go to some random yahoo's youtube channel to find information releases.

right dude... like the chalendars on japanese websites in japanese with 400 popups.... or the countless other sites given first access to new information....

random yahoos are basically the official source of information

Which makes me wonder why it’s this way? CG would probably get more people buying if GC didn’t criticize it?

Just one Game changers video can get 100,000 views... it is free advertising. But ain’t nobody telling me several negative videos getting hundreds of thousands of cumulative views had no affect on their relationship as BFF’s

    They were worried about leaks.

This man said horrible advertising isn't negative because it's still advertising.

Did you say that with a straight face?

You must not watch the news, cuz there's literally countless examples proving you wrong.

While true, punishment for negative review is worse

while I agree lootboxes are terrible for the consumer, they are more than a little different than gambling at a casino, at least these ones, and that’s because the goals are different.

True. In a Casino you're gambling for real money. Here you are gambling for absolutely nothing.

It is entertainment...if you think that you are gambling for money in casino, you should never step into a casino

Can someone explain to me why game changers no longer get info released to them early and they roll out their videos when the info is release? Was it because of leaks?

I feel like the excitement of roll outs has dwindled because I’d immediately watch a video and get excited.

Too each their own but was curious what happened.

They leaked G13 in a video about the "droids rework" (I do not remember which droid), so I guess it can be around that.

I see you chose not read the rest of my post. This is not a gamble. You WILL achieve your goal if you spend enough here. This is not true in a casino.

I wonder if EA is re-evaluating their gamechangers programs across all of their products due to this issue Kotaku reported on with Sims.

"I'm having some serious remorse" "You're pay some $400 for code in a mobile game, right?"

    Unconscionable.

I still have mixed feelings about that video
If mg had a problem with gambling addiction then fair enough, but maybe playing mostly gacha type mobile games for a living is a questionable choice

You are paying for a chance to receive a reward. Whether you are buying a lottery ticket, or a meat raffle or placing a blind in poker, you're doing no different.

What you are trying to say that is unlike the lottery, you will achieve the same thing simply because there is an alternate, less attractive path (made intentionally far less attractive to push the user to the gambling option). And that may be true, assuming this mobile game goes on indefinitely or close to it, but that doesn't make the more expedient path not gambling.

That is not what I’m saying at all. My point has nothing to do with the fact that these characters will be made available F2P eventually.

My point is that when you buy a marquee pack, there is a minimum non zero number of shards you will receive. Therefore, there is a theoretical maximum to your spending to achieve the goal of maxing the star of the character. There is variance in the number of shards you will receive, but it is always >0. You are not gambling in the sense because the reward will be achieved.

In your example, you could spend millions of dollars playing the lottery or poker, but not win a cent. You are gambling your money because there is a chance you will win more, but there is also a chance you will win less than you spent, or none at all.

In other words, there is a guaranteed return on your investment in these lootboxes. It may be better or worse, depending on how “lucky” you are. There is no such guarantee in true gambling.

People always assume the next gear level, because the test accounts always have all the green pluses, but if you look closely you can see it's still the "gear" icon in the background. It's a little confusing.

So at the casinos what happens when you win a jackpot? Blinky lights and cool sounds. When you pull an extraordinary reward from Bronzium, chromium, or limited time packs you get a cool sound when you win an extraordinary one and cool effects surrounds it.

So psychologically a player’s brain is pumping out endorphins and your brain is hit with that “feel good rush” which is very similar to gambling.

Furthermore there are folks from the community who have come out with their stories of how they spent thousands on the game and were absolutely addicted. Some to an unhealthy level where they are spending money they can’t afford to spend.

Not everyone has an “addictive” personality. But there is a portion of people that absolutely does and it’s tricky to find the balance between making money and “exploiting” those who do.

Years ago Facebook spent $$$ researching how to get people to spend more and more time on their ap. They studied human behavior and have managed to get more people to spend more & more time on FB.

Mobile games do the same exact thing. They study behavior and do various things to get people to spend more time in the game. I guess I’m just saying this is because to dismiss gambling/addiction as a part of the game is... not well thought out. (Though you do have some great points on the differences between the two bro).

CG can’t stop releasing misleading content which leads to refunds which hurts their profits.

You can control what you can control...leaks were a serious concern. I actually think CG was worried more about unmet expectation than any actual information being disclosed. Darth Raven was known for a long time...even without the leaks so it is not a big deal.

Not all gambling is for money. Doesn't make it not gambling. Just makes the gambler stupid.

Also...you basically get tokens to play with at casinos...there is a reason for that. You are much more likely to spend more and let it ride if it does not look like real money.

Great point... in a casino you exchange money for poker chips. In this game you exchange money for crystals. Either way Psychologists know it’s easier to spend chips/crystals than money.

Well, except for the fact that a month after you do, CG will move the goal posts and release a character or ship that will utterly destroy your "goal".....unless you want to spend again. Then CG will let you pay for that "goal". Now repeat that every 3 months.

And now you understand CG's single character-dominant meta manipulatiij plan that has been in place for the past 18 months. The good news is that it applies to ship arena as well! And, by extension (since every game mode is just a minor variation of those two) every aspect of the game.

You see, the difference is in q casino, the player plays the game. Here, it's the other way around. ;)
In game name: Lucas Gregory FORMER PLAYER - - - -"Whale blah grump poooop." - Ouchie

    In game guild: TNR Uprising
