I think it's funny seeing ppl complaining that u shouldnt have to need dr to do the event, like it's cool for those who paid to get dr should be screwed with an underwhelming character after unlock, what's not cool is requiring such a high power level on the required toons, when you cant buy Zetas to throw on toons
I'll deal with the gear restrictions to get a toon to a certain level, which is completely fair, but when in some cases g12 doesnt get u to a power level that's just completely wrong....

The power is just a general guideline. They're not saying that if you're 16,000 you're just flat out dead. A lot of characters only break that level because of leadership zetas, but those leaderships aren't going to do you any good if they aren't the leader.
They're basically saying you're going to need to have all your characters at high g11 or g12 and all their abilities omega'd. They're saying you won't be able to do this with g8 characters and a ton of refreshes.
Those of you saying this is a new and exciting way to release a toon must be smoking something. It's two legendary events stapled together and it doesn't even give you a 7* toon.
It’s an event that requires us to gear up existing characters to G11 or G12 instead or farming new characters. I personally love that, because when it’s over I not only get a new character, but The characters I used to unlock it are also useful. As opposed to the Phoenix, Ewoks, Old Republic (previously) characters that I take to G9 or something just to unlock a character and then they sit there incomplete and unused because I don’t have time to finish them since I’m off to working on the next event.
I whale out more than is rational or even sane. But the thing here defenders aren't getting isn't that other players are expecting immediate access to a new toon but a system of getting characters that at least respect the player base.
A whole lot of the upset could have been avoided by simply having the Malek event after the JKR event to not only give time to dolphins and ftp to catch up a bit but to give newer players the opportunity to even participate in the event at all.
There's still be panic farming, purchases and more than likely complaining because this are universal but that some are inarticulate in describing the source of rage doesn't mean they aren't right to be angry. And there's a whole lot to be angry about this event even for those of us who are capable of participating. Basic decency doesn't cost a thing even when, especially when, you're in the business of selling.
I think this really is a low point for the game. I haven't spent a dime, nor do I intend to, but I have managed to get everything on either the first or second time around. I missed out on the Falcon the first time, but I have been buying refreshes the past week and need a total of 13 shards on my last two BH ships to 7* everything. Of course, I have had to stop farming the DR KOTOR toons to do so. At a current 8 attempts a day model, I'm about 60 days out from finishing Juhani, which it the toon I need the most shards for of the KOTOR toons. That would allow me to finish that toon without any refreshes in time for the return of DR, since that would most likely be in 3 months.
As for Malak, I won't even be able to participate on either end of it. I don't have DR, so that half is out. I only have Bastila, Jolee and JKR at 17,500+ and not even close for the others. All the toon farming does not allow for gear farming too. I probably have at least half my roster waiting for stun guns.
I don't think this event bodes well for the game as it really is a naked cash grab, which probably means things aren't going well. This is the reason I don't spend money on these games, because when they die, they die fast. Look at the rash of FB games that have had similar micro transactions in game. They die off all the time, and they are completely gone. It isn't like if they released Malak and then said, ok, we are done for new content and then leave the game running. It is generally more along the lines of we are done and the game is going offline in a month.

I actually love this direction. It’s a better deal no matter what. If you’ve prepped for the DR/JKR events: this is a bonus! If not: then even totally unprepared, you get more for less. Say you have to power level some of the newest toons to participate and you drop $150 on gear. The end result is you get Malak AND a bunch of valuable toons powered up to g12 for HALF of what you pay to get Malak by himself as a marquee ($300). Don’t see a downside!

$150 on gear is ok for you? You're happy with that direction. Fancy sending me something off your money tree?
To hell with these guys seriously... bad enough 2 journey toons needed then you go and throw in the ridiculous 17.5k GP requirement on toons that most people geared enough for those journey toons and moved on to gearing characters they want (Outside of the kracken and whales who probably had them G12 day the marquee came out) so they get rewarded with 2 journey toons and probably a full years worth of top meta team for paying into EA/CG horrible marquee pay to win strategy.
Now if you even manage to have all these requirements for a toon that Revan beats by himself in the game they are copying it from you get him unlocked at 5 stars and get the joy of paying what is probably going to be around 50k in guild event store currency to get him to 7 star if and only if they make the cost the same as wampa or hyoda which is a big if.
Knowing these dirtbags it will be 400 currency a shard or something ridiculous so you will need like 75k currency just to put him to 7 star all to make a character that both versions of Revan should be way more powerful than but that doesnt matter to these scum they have no care for lore or characters all they care about is how much money they can milk from the fans.
I used to spend money on this game and even dropped money on DR event to push me up enough to unlock him with the last day of the event since I fell short but I will never again spend money on this game and now even contemplating disputing my charge with my bank on the money I did spend 2 weeks ago.
Utter disgrace and ruining this game why dont you just do us a favor and release him as a purely cash option of $200 and then in 6 months add him to the store as F2P so in a year from now the 97% of the community will have him when he is 2 metas ago so as not to upset the 500 or so players who drop thousands on this game yearly..
I whale out more than is rational or even sane. But the thing here defenders aren't getting isn't that other players are expecting immediate access to a new toon but a system of getting characters that at least respect the player base.
Yeah, but the thing that you're not getting is that you don't HAVE to whale out all the time. It's okay to let a character go by and get them the next time. It's not the end of the game, let alone the end of the world.
They're not disrespecting you. They don't even know who you are. They're giving us the thing we asked for--Malak, fewer marquees, reasons to use characters we don't use, etc--but getting what you want usually comes with the unexpected result of realizing you didn't actually want it.

That's what some people are getting wrong. Once you start whaling out, you actually HAVE to spend more and more, every time you have to. Why? Because if you don't, all the money you have spent earlier will be useless. This is the classic casino way EA has gotten us used to. They got yelled at when they pulled the rope too much on big games like Battlefront, so they got **** and they're getting extremely predatory on lesser means, like this game.
The sum is always the same:
Nobody: EA is a very good house
EA: oh we are so good, everyone says so, I think we deserve more money
I really don't see why people are getting so worked up.
How is this any different from any other Pay To Win event they have previously run? So you won't get Darth Malak this time around, so what? You can farm the required characters over the next few months and get him next time. Why is your inability to get a character the moment it is released being equated with the death of the game?
If this game is to survive, it needs to keep introducing new ways to spend money. Only a small fraction of players spend and once they've bought a character they're not going to do so again. So then what? Do CG sit around and hope someone else comes along to buy the character? Or do they introduce new characters for people to buy?
What is the problem here?? Seriously.
Yes, I would love to get myself to the top 50 in the Squad Arena every day without ever spending money. But we know that's not possible. So why get upset every time we're reminded of that fact?
CG should just bring back Aurodium packs and lay it on the line: "For a limited time, new character [insert name] is now available for sale to paying players!" It wouldn't stop all the grumbling, but it might help some people understand that cash it what keeps the game afloat.
That's what some people are getting wrong. Once you start whaling out, you actually HAVE to spend more and more, every time you have to. Why? Because if you don't, all the money you have spent earlier will be useless.
That is so obviously wrong that I'm almost wondering if you're actually trolling or not ... ?
I don’t mind the gp/gear requirement as such but I’m less than thrilled to be shut out from the event just because I don’t have the latest legendary meta toon. It doesn’t strike me as a cool move to DR a required toon.

Just because you have spent money in the past does not mean you have to spend more money to protect that lost investment. No matter how much money you put in this game, the only return you get is the ability to rank higher in the Squad Arena. You know you will never see a profit. I believe this is almost (but not quite) what they call the Sunk Cost Fallacy.
Money spent in this game is a recreational expense, it is not an investment.

Clearly this event is a huge f*** you to everyone without a bottomless credit card. With (for example) 1 shard on full fleet energy for Carth, this is an impossible task for those who aren’t paying players. We’ll keep going but it’s too obvious and disheartening
I have all my OR at G11 already from the past Events. Like many, I didn't put Omegas on them. So now I need 55 Omegas to remotely gave a chance. There's no way I can acquire 55 Omegas in <24 hours especially with the current Omega bottleneck.

Nothing like punishing us twice. Great job CG.
edit: doesn't matter
A lot
after I thought about it for 2 seconds, realized it doesn't matter. but for general knowledge, how much is a lot?
DR is not much of a punishment...easy beat with like 5 teams.
Malak is the true meta.
Removed a full 6dot set from GAT and he went down about 3k GP
Edited forgot about his ship gp calculated as well
It made perfect sense to tie G12 to 7* requirement, in a similar way this makes sense. Have legendaries really be legendaries, requiring effort.
F2P and no Darth Revan here.
