Anakin Should Not Outperform Malak

  • When does this insanity end? You can’t keep releasing stronger characters that make older strongest characters obsolete without busting the game.

    Oh sorry... too late.

Correct...an old character that hasn't been viable in years should not be able to immediately beat the hardest whale character to date.

Good thing he doesn't. Most of the problems that JKA was causing for 1 day was against undergeared and starred Malaks. in my testing, I had better success with my own Malak (G11 5 stars) vs. the g12 7 star malaks than I did with JKA using the same mods.

  • I think CGs recent behavior is quite educative

I am F2P and understand they need to make money from the game, but I've been playing for quite a long time and always Meta teams in the first time appereance where strong teams that could be defeated on Offense but it where quite better on Defense.... Now they are showing Malak owners shall not be disturbed, simple as that!

Anakin in maxed out G12+... the vast majority of Malak owners don’t have Malak maxed out. Has anyone tried beating a maxed out Malak team with JKA? I’ve heard it’s still incredibly hard.

The two should be compared while maxed... not a 5* G10 Malak. And not viral videos that show Anakin beating Malak... but don’t show the 5 times he lost to Makak.

Anakin is still incrediblely squishy. It’s ridiculous to pretend he’s anywhere close to Malak... especially on defense. You one shot kill Anakin for the most part... Malak you can get to 200k+ health... and he replenishes that health constantly.

This is all just a big overreaction. JKA doesn’t walk all over Malak teams. I laugh at some of the videos out there. “JKA beats Malak on a Malak team?! JKA is way OP!”

Well... you didn’t mention the fact that your mods were faster... all your toons went first... JKA wasn’t one shot killed due to RNG, and JKA gets off 2 attacks before dying and the last 2 remaining toons are... Malak... And they’re not even maxed.

Warrior seemed like a mouth piece for the spenders that don't want competition in that video. A. Anakin was WAY oversold as a contributor on that team (HK would have much better). I think he is smart about the game so there is no other conclusion I can come to other than he wanted to put up a overly sensationalized video that accomplishes the goal he and his TI friends have of creating an unhealthy meta with zero competition from people smarter than them about the game.

I agree 100% and g12 Malaks aren't losing to even maxed JKA's on consistently. This is all manipulation by the special "spenders" that CG has as their play testers. It all goes back to this, this game would be MUCH better without a subset of 50-100 players that seem to have CG's ear.

@Nikoms565 there are very few F2P toons at the top end of arena and by that I mean almost every new toon is intended to make them money. This is either through gear or through stars.

@leef isn’t the only F2P player to have malak cause I do too and I know a lot of people who have him without having to sell their cars in other to get him. Now even if you managed to get him, it’s a crappy meta we have cause the real winner is speed and if luck smiled at you and you have amazing speed mods, it’s your time to shine.

So I guess spending on mods is a sure fire way of winning and spending on mods is like a slot machine, you can spend months sitting there waiting for speed to roll 3 to 4 times straight.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, it’s a business trying to make money by any means possible and that’s what businesses do. So the real argument isn’t just the P2P vs F2P, it’s are their business tactics ethical or not?

Here’s a good one to feed the conspiracy theorists, I used to have 120 zeta mats stored up, during that time, I’d roll 1 to 2 zetas without fail from the fleet challenges. I had more than I needed, now that I’m down to 10, I can’t seem to get 1 piece to drop and it’s been 3 weeks.

Sorry guys, you can't have both sides of the argument. Either Malak is a p2p toon and CG is protecting their "investors" - which is actually not true, because many people who are running JKR+JKA+Hoda, have possibly invested as well...or Malak is f2p, in which case, he's fair game.

The idea that CG now actively and directly seeks out to punish innovation and creative play through direct and indirect nerfs and reworks is the more concerning issue here - whether it's to "protect" their most recent meta release or prescribe play.

One of the great things about this game is that it doesn’t distinguish between resources purchased with cash and those earned through game play. There is nothing that can be acquired with money that can’t instead be acquired with saved resources. But spending those resources is a significant expenditure either way, and just as worthy of being protected. This is the newest character and one that is meant to be exclusive, and to be worth the cost of getting him, whether that cost is measured in dollars or saved gear/crystals/whatever.

The point was that it requires hard work and/or money to get malak. Ani however is an easy farm which can easily be plugged into an old meta (JKR).
Any hard to get character is going to get bought by people and because of that the ratio between p2p and f2p owners will obviously be skewed towards p2p.

on a side note, the whole f2p vs p2p pales in comparssion with the haves vs the have nots. If you're finishing #1 in squad arena you're getting $100 worth of crystals per month more than a top100 player. Same goes for fleet, so that's potentially 200 bucks worth of crystals for free every month just because you're ranking 50 or more ranks higher than someone else. The occasional, non competative spender doesn't come close to having that much crystals at his disposal.

@leef and this is precisely why I don’t get people posting about arena not being important. As you mentioned it’s the vital source of in game currency and the key to keeping up and or being competitive.
Everything revolves around earning the purple pixels that help us improve and unlock stronger toons.
  • Pre-rework Anakin, along with Aayla, Plo Koon, etc. were functional in a Jedi Revan team for many months. It’s only because Anakin (or any other newly discovered character) is interfering with Malak that it’s suddenly an issue. Darth Revan was designed to inherently lack defense, which is why Anakin can kind of sort of hurt the weaker Malaks. Boo hoo?

Do people want mundane, repetitive Malak mirror matches determined by who rolled the dice and got better speed mods? Or do people want to be able to theorycraft fun, creative teams from a roster spanning 172 characters? Do people want CG to hold their hands and dictate whom of those 172 characters are permissible to use, or do they want to use their brain and imagination and work within a sandbox of fun characters introduced throughout 42 years of Star Wars media?

Obviously newer characters are going to progressively get stronger and more complex than older ones, but why can’t older ones continue to compete if their kits can mingle with newer characters? 172 characters and some of you people only want 5-6 of them to be viable at a time?! How’s that at all fun?! With that many characters, if anything, the meta should be massively diverse, not shriveled up. Let Palpatine, Jedi Anakin, even CUP be able to shine for a couple months. Not like they’re single handedly destroying new meta teams, they’re integrated with other meta characters to make a cohesive, synergistic team.

It’s never healthy for a game to have unbeatable teams. Money should buy you a slight advantage, not complete dominance. Otherwise it’s no longer a game, it’s just a high priced pixel collection. Shame on the current management of this “game” to throwaway their integrity to squeeze cash out of a loyal playerbase and kill what was once actually a fun game that their predecessors created.

  • Yeah this is just sad. They want Malak to rule with the Meta and anything that challenges it they need to nerf.

And JKA should be one of the most powerful characters but everyone already has him so they won't make money off of him. Sad how money driven they are.
  • I have yet to see Malak in my shard. I have been using Anakin and it is not too crazy in hitting his AOE I am hitting for 44K most consistently.

  • Anakin’s always had strong synergy with revivers. The fact that JKR provides a Jedi team multiple, strong ways to heal and revive is the issue. That’s the source of all Anakin’s bonus turns

(most) People want to win, preferably with the least amount of effort. All that other stuff is of secondary importance.
Do i want a diverse arena? sure. Do i still want a diverse arena if that means i'll drop out of the top50 on def? heck no!
It’s never healthy for a game to have unbeatable teams.

Unbeatable teams have never been part of swgoh. I'm still not convinced drevan/malak is actually unbeatable (without drevan/malak/ani and with roughly equal mods).
I'm fine with ani not getting a nerf though, but you gotta admit, it's super cheesy to rework a couple characters with the emphasis on galactic republic and one of them blows the just released hard to get toon out of the water on offense in a standard JKR comp. That didn't require alot of theorycrafting. End of the day ani obviously doens't outperform malak, so it is what it is.

It looks like Zalbar & KRU can beat Darth Malak as well... can we expect KRU and Zalbar to be nerfed soon too?

Savage Opress can one shot the allmighty Malak if his health is under 50%. Savage rework pls, he is very op, the whales are unhappy, this is outrageous
  • Daishi wrote: »
Is anyone wondering WHY people are not upset at grevious but are about ani? Both are older characters that can defeat the new meta.

The problem is level of investment.

Meta team:Revan, Malak, HK, BSF---- 8 zeta required to make the team work, 6 pieces of new gear that costs 2800 crystals each, Malak requires a significant amount of GET to get 7*. Add in the requirements needed to unlock revan and malak and the focus and farming that was required, or the spending of $$.

Grevious team: GG, T3, BB8, etc.--- requires 5+ Zetas to a previously unused team. Large gear investment to make what was a non viable team an arena meta counter. Grevious is a slow farm requiring fleet currency (at the expense of zetas) or shard currency (at the expense of other gear)

JKA team: Plug and play character, easily farmed, that fits in a previous meta team that required little to no additional investment.

This is why GG isnt being complained about but JKA is. Now if JKA wasnt effective on a Jedi Revan team and instead required a very specific galactic republic team that included several previously unused jedi, which required a large investment of Zetas and gear to make it work, you probably wouldn't see so many complaints.

TLDR: Its not that malak owners dont want to see counters. It's that we dont want to see easy and cheap counters that invalidate our investment in Malak.

FIX? Adjust the anakin rework so that it applies only to galactic republic, and under a galactic republic leader. Reduce bonus damage to 50%, but give an additional 50% of the character that falls below 50% is GK or Ashoka.

    This guy gets it.

They're really kicking up the casino vibes here. "You'll never beat the house" really comes to mind when reading this nasty "sorry, not sorry" post. This micromanaging of competitive play is so gross and it's really taking away any fun or excitement I once felt for this game. Anyone else feel the same?

Right...a 7 star JKA should not be able to out perform a 7 star Malak. For them to make this statement knowing full well most of us with Malak at 5 stars is ridiculous. I fully expect a 7 star G12 character to out perform a 5 star G11...no matter how strong that 5 stars kit is. This is just ridiculous..if they didn't want Malak to lose to so many team comps and characters then they should've released him at 7 star. It's not like his event wasn't the hardest event in the history of the game or nothing...Kind of a no brainer... But they want us to farm Malak to 7 star for months while they pump out new reworks and characters and expect him to still be viable without G12, tier 6 mods, or 7 star stats....

It's crazy how people refuse to acknowledge this... Most people whining don't have a max Malak (against a max Anakin)

    whining...lol

"most" is the key word here.

The new spin is that anakin is doing this against 5 star...because most have him at only 5 star.

I've seen the anakin cheese beat the 6 and 7 star and the guy using jkr/jka has average mods.

The guys with good mod sets are running them over DR/Malak because "why waste gear when you don't have to?"
  • Poor anakin. I hate we are under an or era . I hate old republic or better this game made me hate them. Anakin should be op hes chosen one. Yet chaze is more useful than him. Super random imo

CG? If you really want to nert Anakin who is the most dominent presence on the entire star wars world, then plz launch Anakin Skywalker (Fallen).
    Much overpowered than Malak.

Most dominant presence? You watched like 2 movies and came to this conclusion?
I agree he has a good story and looks great, but to be fair, he didnt really matter at all.

Palpatine created the empire, not Vader. He was always an apprentice, not a Dark Lord.
Even if he helped defeating Palpatine, nothing really changed, in ep7 its still the Empire ruling, albeit rebranded as First Order.
He didnt actually have any influence on star wars world.

Revan, on the other hand... In the game you can clearly see how his choices actually determined the faith of the galaxy.

You can still like DV, but objectively, he wasnt important.

First, I love the Old Republic and actually all eras of the Star Wars history. To me they are all important and the movies are only a small part of it. But, to be fair, Anakin is more than you credit him for. Have you watched the Mortis episodes of the Clone Wars series, for example? They showed a bit more of the bigger picture, and confirmed him as the Chosen One. He didn't only "help killing Palpatine" for nothing, he fulfilled his destiny in that moment. The whole First Order crap is not George Lucas' fault, something like that to follow up wasn't planned in his story. ;)
