Regarding SWGOH gamer speak

Having lurked in these forums for a couple of weeks, I have learned quite a lot to better my gameplay. Early on I read about "glass cannons", which helped me lot, for example. Nevertheless, as you can see below, I might have misconstrued a few terms, because the discussions here tend to be laden with words, which for me as a kinda noob, can be difficult to comprehend. Anyway, here's, what I've got so far.

TOON - "character", word seemingly coming from the game publisher and never used by the developers

MOLASSES - toon which is very slow despite buffs and synergies

GLASS CANNON - toon with superior offensive power, but very fragile

CUPCAKE - non threatening toon, that gets spared for last, like Chewy or Barriss Toffee

NERF - decrease of effectiveness or "buff"

BUFF - increase of effectiveness or "nerf"

OP - "it is like, 'only Poe' was", "overpowered"

JC - da man himself. Everybody's friend and refuge, especially during times of Galactic War.

REZ - resurrection of a fallen combatant during battle

BOT - assumption that Mol Eliza teams in Squad Arena are not actual user accounts

STRATEGY - "have this(!) character!! And then press the attack button!!! BOOM! TOTAL META CHANGE!!!!"

META - frequent usage of this word often indicates a person roused by fondness of themselves to the dire need to tell other people about their Squad Arena team

NEW / CURRENT META - about the Squad Arena part of the game, void of intellectually meaningful considerations

META CHANGE - minor superficial alterations, without any change on an abstract level whatsoever

TESTING - playing the game, while dreaming up non existent correlations

IMPOSSIBLE - "improbable" or "feces"

ALWAYS - "occasionally" or "in this specific instance only"

DROP RATE - catalyst for wild imaginations

RNG - according to happy folks, "Fortuna", permanent stealth toon, Nightsister of Chance. Or according to others, "publisher malfeasance"

PROBABILITY THEORY - something utterly useless.

STOCHASTIC - dirty word, which circumvents netiquette nicely or sometimes not at all. who knows?

ONE SHOT - short but satisfying experience of a stochasm

  • "Whale". I have a hard time with this one. :p Why "Whale"?

In the forums of the other game I frequent (and have played for years) the favored term is "Wallet Warrior", which is catchy & the name says it all; I'll probably carry over to these boards.
    Drop It Like It's xHOTHx
In Game Name: E Chu Ta

  • WHALE - from casino language for "really huge spender"

DOLPHIN - somebody spending less than thousands of $$

PLANKTON - players religiously spending not a single penny

P2W - "pay to win" , usage of this word usually indicates bitterness and/or envy

P2P - "pay to play" label for those who realized, that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch

F2P - "free lunch to the people", an inalienable right of every whiner on earth
  • where is CG?

  • EA - "Electronic Artists" nonprofit organization of likeminded, free spirited digital arts aficionados for global peace and understanding

CG - "Capital Gains", nicknamed "Colden Goose" ;-)

GG - "General Grievous", character name, which is so true and real that it hurts many forum members to write it. Hence the ubiquitous abbreviation. (nota bene: Not to be confused with the following two)

JJ - "Jeffrey Jacob" , intern, who was responsible for Poe being OP

GS - "Geonosian Soldier", toon that is easily accessible and farmable. Speedy with assist attack and useful in many team setups. He even got an ugly mug like GG! What's not to like?
  • Toon is used by old fogeys like me from the ancient MMORPG days to refer to their cartoon characters.
  • More, i want more! XD
  • GENERAL VEERS - seemingly showed up uninvited to the game, wandering around, looking for a purpose

GENERAL DISCUSSION - Full of brutal attacks that cut down reasonable arguments, while protecting themselves with forced logic taunts

GRANDMASTER YODA - still a rare sight. Met him once in Arena, I panicked and activated assassin protocol, he immediately left, not with fireworks but a fizzle

FOGEY - British, humorous for "old school"

VAGUE - what people tell you about their gaming before SWGOH

WIND - indicates underpowered attack capability

NOODLE - same as above, comes from observing Barriss Offee's attack animation, where her light saber bends like a wet noodle

DPS - "damage points" -yes? Still not sure.

SNIP - indicates either an act of intervention or self censorship (very much appreciated anyway, I mean it)

  • I'm still not sure what meta stands for. Even after the 3 explanations.
  • I have a friend called Meta. She's very nice. You should meet her.

  • It's almost as if there was a word for this.... Jargon....
  • It's almost as if there was a word for this.... Jargon....

Yes, thanks. The point of the OP was to define the jargon, not define jargon.
  • In general, anytime you see 2+ capital letters together, they are a character abbreviation.

Anything starting with FO is First Order...primarily FOTP for the Tie Pilot.

CUP - Needful abbreviation for the needlessly long Coruscant Underworld Police

Tic or Tick-- Refers to the increasing of a character's turn meter as each character takes an action. Less common since the Speed change in the last major update. (The turn meters still tick, though.)

Personally I hate GG since everyone outside SWGOH uses that for good game.
  • I work in insurance in Australia and many years ago an insurance company called Commercial Union opened a branch office in the Northern Territory. Guess what their abbreviated name was?

  • Lol. I remember the old Northwest Airlines had their abbreviation down the side of the planes. NWA in 8' tall letters.
  • Apparently no one here has ever been brutally slapped by a thick wet noodle. An udon or something.

  • I like how SWGOH players don't call captain phasma by her initials. Imagine the site where the thread names are:
    HOW TO DOMINATE WITH CP

    CP IS OVERRATED

WHY CP IS THE BEST THING EVER!

FBI would be on this place in seconds.
  • I hate RG for Royal Guard. Clearly should've been called Red.

When I was a kid they were called Imperial Guards.
