Nothing cheeses me off more when this happens.... Is it a bug or supposed to work this way??

    Well, the assist call is under the mercy of RNG, so it is probably an unintended consequence.

    Devs acknowledged this is a silly bug a while ago, just check the dev notes section IIRC.
