TW Matchups

I get that no system is perfect. But how in the hell does this type of match up happen for TW? Our guild has often been matched with opponents who have 10, 15, even 20 million in GP more than us. But 33 million? Why is this happening and what can be done about it? Why should we even bother trying at this point?

  • Not all of their people are participating and if you compare the GP of participating members its probably less of a mismatch. That's the mathematical reason it happens.

Thank you for that. Your point does make sense. However, it would have to be their top 5 who weren't participating in order to even make it close. That would narrow the total difference to 8 or 9 million.
  • How many defensive teams can you set, and how many of your guild signed up?

We had 45 out of 46 sign up, and can set 21 spots
  • So 8/9 of your opponent's guild didn't sign up (defences are half the number of participants of the guild with fewest). Looks like it's within matchmaking parameters.
  • Yes, the confusing aspect here is that the matchmaking system allows incongruent player counts in the matchups. You can have full guild participation, and the opposing guild can be at 40 / 50 or 41 / 50 which severely limits their participating GP.

There is an argument to be made that this often doesn't *really* generate even matchups because it tends to be 50 players with less top end development against 40 players with more top-end development. But that's a problem nobody can really propose a great solution for, so CG has opted for the simpler dummy approach of matching the GP of the top of the rosters of active participants.

And there we have it. That is the best explanation I've heard. Thank you for that.
Of course my question now is, why couldn't they just use average member GP as an additional measurement?

About half of that 33 million difference is because your opponent guild also has 4 members more that you. If you want to do something about that, add 4 members.

Secondly, you're matched by active GP - not total guild GP.
