Okay, it's been a while since I talked about music, or anything for that matter lol. Opinions may vary. I myself am torn between Kashmir and Immigrant song. What do others think?

Kashmir: Takes you away and you don't want to come back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD-MdiUm1_Y

Immigrant song: The into sends me off the deep end, if I'm driving a speeding ticket is highly possible. lol Gear heads will appreciate this, I bang through the gears and I.Am.Off.

  • Kashmir is probably my favorite Zeppelin song. Local classic rock station does a daily 6:00pm tribute to The Mighty Zeppelin, I like it because they find unique recordings of their stuff, live performances usually, and then follow up the set with interesting trivia about the band. I hear it most days on my commute.
Anyone who does not appreciate Led Zeppelin simply has no soul or is too encapsulated in their little minds to understand what makes LZ great. But they can be forgiven for being small, I didn't really grasp their sound until I allowed myself to grow.
  • I think it's important to remember we're talking about songs released 45 and 50 years ago, respectively. I could understand the statement that they're "overrated," because they've become more of a cultural icon than a classic rock band, so many wouldn't associate their level of success to the quality of their music. Personally, I always appreciate innovators that can push boundaries in a genre, especially when they are able to do so in a way that still allows the mainstream listener to enjoy it. I think that Led Zeppelin did that, and while I don't listen to their music much anymore, I listen to hundreds of bands that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Led Zeppelin paving the way.

I don't take anything away from them being influential. They're properly rated as far as that goes.

I don't enjoy listening to them though. Same with the Beatles.

Music is something that speaks to each of us differently. They don't speak to me. And that's fine. Calling me small-minded because I don't "get it" is ridiculous.

I find them overrated, meaning I don't enjoy them the way people insist I should. Like in this thread.

I do enjoy how people get worked up over the "overrated" part without reading any further though.

I guess you and I have different interpretations of what overrated means.

To me they’re rated right where they should be when you consider everything.

There are a lot of things in life I don’t particularly like, enjoy or get, that lots of other people do and most of that I don’t think is overrated. I don’t like bell peppers, but most everyone I know does. I don’t think bell peppers are overrated.

And LOL that disagreeing means getting worked up. If someone’s getting worked up about this, they definitely need a perspective check.

So how do you define overrated if i may ask?
    OT: Kanye West > all

This got me hooked as a kid.

maybe my fav LZ song right here. excellent choice
  • It took me a while to understand some saying (including Zep themselves) the blues influence in their music. Now I can't figure out why it took me so long. Lol Zepplin has indeed stood the test of time. Groups like Greta Van Fleet are picking up the baton and running with it. Even RP has recommended them :)

Kashmir is one of those songs that take you out of yourself and for a few moments nothing matters. Those that do not get it, are really missing out. But I guess quality and complex chords, etc are not for the faint of heart. :)
A hundred years from now, some kid will be trying to play todays instruments trying to replicate the amazing riff that we know and love.

Give me LZ and Metallica any day. Two of the all time bests.
Why wasn't Cobb Vanth shards a reward for the Krayt Dragon raid? Why wasn't Endor Gear Luke shards a reward for the Speeder Bike raid?

Answer to the question (was there a question? Read the op again...) is Immigrant Song.

Also, zep is properly rated... ask any 20yr old about them, and they say "lead what?"

Actually, I am surprised more and more by the growing numbers of their younger fans. I suspect their parents played a part exposing them to Led Zeppelin. But groups like Greta Van Fleet, Zepperalla, are keeping the flame burning.

Would be there no matter the price.

I wonder how many times the immigrant song has been covered by a band in a club all over the world over the years.

And that young drummer is awesome! Saw her videos a while ago, just great stuff.

I watch Thor Ragnarok just to hear it and see it incorporated into the fight scenes. LOL

    Great surprise here..

Beck really gets around. Has played with so many greats.

Over the hills and far away is one of my favorites, Eventine.

I read an article a few weeks ago, that was basically asking the greats what made Jeff Beck so special. Guitarists like Satriani, Vai, Lukather, and so on, were in awe of his ability to bring out sounds without the toys, that they could not. One said if you see Jeff 5 minutes after he wakes up, he has his guitar in his hands. in the video I posted with Jimmy and Jeff playing Immigrant song, watch Jimmys face when Jeff plays what would be Robert Plants vocals using only his guitar. Jimmy is like "Whoa". Jeff Beck, is the master imho.

Full of awesome, Over the Hills and Far Away
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-tT62bpYlU

So melodic, then it hits you hard, and you never want it to stop. Interesting trivia, when asked if Led Zeppelin was Metal, Robert replied..."no". I had to think about that, but he's right. Hard Rock perhaps but it is more Blues than Metal.

The last time I saw Jeff Beck was a couple years ago opening for ZZ-Top. He joined them on stage for an hour long encore, for old guys they nailed it, so good.

He can play with anyone and has.

He is so humble to, he is so passionate about playing, no ego, he just wants to play and share what he has learned. I saw an interview with Eddie Van Halen, and believe it or not, Eddie is the same. He claims no fame etc, just sharing what he has learned. I think the greats have that in common. Jimi Hendrix thought his voice wasn't very good. Ron Wood told him "Your guitar playing more than makes up for it".

    True that!

I wish I had another lifetime to play, study and listen to music. One lifetime is not enough.

Great interview, off the topic but a familiar face brings it back on topic-ish

Somehow I missed answering this, as much as I agree Led Zeppelin has influenced todays music, I think it started of course with the Blues. They influenced Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and of course Jimmy Page. With the Yardbirbs setting the stage, then Cream, etc. Which gave birth to Led Zepplin, and those that followed. Watch the interview with Jeff Beck, he mentions a group he said would have become led Zeppelin had they a good vocalist (Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon). Funny how things work out. Led Zeppelins impact, reinvention, pushing their boundaries (which explains "In through the out door" existence lol). Is most certainly felt today and will be part of the music scene long after they depart. One of my fav memories is when they had a reunion at Live Aid. When asked what the audience wanted to hear, and resounding STAIRWAY was their reply.. I have to wonder what that felt like. A new generation of fans loving their music.

Page, Clapton, Beck, Stairway to Heaven
