Maybe last week, give or take a few days, there was a chat thread here about how GAC is broken because of all the OP GL squads.
The OP posited an opinion that with only 20% of players owning a GL that almost 80% of GAC players would face one on the opposing roster. Kyno opined that this was incorrect and the odds were less. Then a few other players chimed in this way or that.
Whatever the odds actually are, if you DON'T have a GL and you are matched vs. a player that has a fully maxed ultimate, R7 GL staring at you in the front line defense... (assuming that the player with the GL is an experienced and savvy player - which most probably are - the odds of victory for the non GL-owning player would be on the lower side, I imagine)
Many a veteran player has openly stated on this forum that GL vs non-GL matches are so blatantly lopsided that you can just place the GL on Def, then sit back an do almost nothing to win. (If the GL owning players is going for max points then some strategizing is needed) I don't really know if this works or not, since I have not yet unlocked a GL.
So the question remains that with such OP toons that translate into such OP squads how can it possibly be fair to match one player with a GL vs one without a GL?
"Well Mr. OP, the matches are calculated based on your top "x" number of toons, depending on which DIV you are in. So you should have much more depth to be able to handle your opponent's GL squad. And besides, (whiner) if you want to stop facing GL owning players in GAC then get one yourself."

Is overall GP of one's top 70 or 80 or 90 toons an accurate way of determining the overall OFF/DEF power of one's roster?
Maybe one player has slightly better BH, NS, JKR, GG, Geo, and Padme squads. Does anyone think that those slightly better geared squads are going to overcome a fully maxed GL squad? The GAC matchmaker thinks, so.
The player with the slightly better geared squads above may have about a 100k GP advantage in those named squads, but the GL owning player "evens out the numbers in total GP" by having a GL (along with the accompanying 10 relic toons required for GL unlock) So the overall GP of both players is very close. But the overall META power of the two players may be vastly different.
"Well Mr. OP, you CHOSE to collect and gear up the toons you did. You may have developed a well balanced roster for the purposes of having depth to win a lot of GAC matches, but the game has now changed. Its now based on two (soon to be four) top heavy GL toons and if you don't have them yet, you should."
Yeah, I suppose you're right. As F2P player who has been chasing one META after another for over three years, choosing to finish up certain squads that were top ranked months and years ago is my choice. CG has to make money b/c the game is not a socialist utopia where everything is free and equal. This is still a business selling a product and people won't buy the product unless it gets bigger and better and lets them win easier and easier.
I guess instead of studying my opponent's roster and making good OFF/DEF placements to squeak out wins, i could just face GL after GL and just take my lumps. I could lose often and become disenfranchised by the non-sustainable business model the CG developers have chosen until I am fed up with it all and then quit....like many are doing...like many have done.
But what are all the GL owners (a large proportion of them being decent spenders on the game...whales, krackens, leviathons, whatever) going to do when there are far far fewer non-GL owning players to match up with? Maybe they will have to face mostly...or almost exclusively...players that also have GL's?

Two obvious conclusions:
- this is not going to change. Stop complaining about it.
- If you can’t beat em, join em.
As for the matchmaking algorithm, this is where players need to build their rosters carefully. If someone does have multiple high relics on their BH, NS, Jedi, Geos squads and finds themselves regularly matched with GL owners, that’s how it works.
Other than having a better chance at earning meagre rewards in a monthly assault battle, what good is high relics on BH, NS giving someone? Lots more GP for very little impact, that’s what.
Their new formula eliminated "TB Bloat" for players who'd been around forever. How about eliminating GL bloat? All these res toons and rebel toons I've relic'd bc the game has told me to yet that I don't use are just forcing me into stronger matchups. Or is CG now encouraging players to hoard which was something they have claimed before to not like and actively do not want to encourage?
Div 1 sucks. I suggest staying out of it as long as you can. the matchups are just gross.
you have no GL but relic'd res and rebs? well, that's why.
ftr I agree that the incentive to hoard is not good, but it is what it is.
The game also suggest that I unlock and gear up my Ugnaught but somehow I find the willpower to resist... perhaps because I know that poor little Uggy would be about as much use as a napkin for a sarlacc.
