  Happy to see you're playing with us,
  There's no need to "save" anything, you just need to be linked up to play and can close the app and come back later, nothing will be lost.
  You only need a verified GooglePlay or iOS GameCenter account.

  If you are logged in as a guest link it with your google play account.

  Thank you for your response and welcome Regeneration. Does this also mean that if my phone drops into a river and i need to re-install the game my profile/progress will be saved as well?

  If your account is verified with a GooglePlay or iOS GameCenter, if you lose your device, you may login your account from a new device and play where you left off.
  
  -Other than that, there's no need to Save, simply play & close.
