Is it wrong for me to not max out the skills for my toons that i will eventually drop?

I confess

My Lumi and Sid have been at lvl 6 skill.

sure i might lose sometimes due to getting a little less heal/crit/damage

I am not sure +5% damage/heal/ 2 % crit is worth the 7-9 purple mats for each skill

since i will drop them from my team. Am currently at 114 purple mats

    Many people do the same thing. It's not wrong, it's smart not to waste these important/rare materials.

    There is no right or wrong, there is only personal preference.

    This is smart, look before you buy. Since the level cap increase is coming before the meta change, this will save you from pain...
