MT will be easy through GW, not sure if I want to chance getting 50 Vader shards in time or if the difference between R2 being 6* and 7* is worth that.
Beat this on the 1st attempt with: EP (L) G11, TFP G11, Vador G10, RG G8, Tarkin G8. EP was the only one left standing with chewie and a bit of R2 on the other side.
Boosted my RG to 7* from 86 shards with the help of around 300k ally points.

I too found it easy though.
you still can get him on the fleet store! the event runs for 7 days, that's plenty of time to buy 20 vader shards (unless you are really unlucky)
