I bought a vault during the 25% bonus periods and spent most of it on mod packs so this came at a bad time for me. But overall I have to say that more rewards are always good and this makes the game less P2W so I have to say it's good overall.

    @Eardane:

    Are you kidding?

Remember that you get to pick the set bonus you're trying for, even at 100% drop rate you still have to get the right shape (1 in 6) and Mk and Quality. Only 1 in 6 of those rare mod will even fit the slot someone is trying to fill.

But that's not all. Except for one mod, all the mods have multiple possibilities for primaries and all 6 have multiple possibilities for secondaries.

This is what I wrote just the other day:
With mods, you throw the vast majority away. The mod you want might be the first one to come up or it might be the 500th one: and the first 499 mods you get don't make any progress towards what you need: the next one the RNG comes up with the right mod for you or it doesn't. That's it. What comes before doesn't matter.

Some people have proposed revamping the Mod Shop so you can pick exactly what you want your mod to be. That's fine, I guess, if you're only worried about removing the frustration of an RNG that has to come up with a Mk5 mod (1 in 3) with the right shape (1 in 6), the right quality (1-3 in 100), the right primary (varies), the right secondaries (varies, but there are 4 of them and you need at least 2 of the secondaries to be something specific), and the right bump at 3rd level (1 in 4) 6th level (1 in 4 again) 9th level (1 in 4) and 12th level (1 in 4 one more time).

Just getting the right secondary increases gives you 1 in 256. That means that after you get a gold Mk5 mod (1 in 3 from the challenges are Mk5 and 1-3% of those are Gold, so that means 1 in 100 to 1 in 300 just to get a gold Mk5) and after you get the right shape (1 in 6 unless some shapes are more rare than others which I think is actually true, so 1 in 6 is actually best-case since you'll be looking longest for the most rare shapes) you're looking at 1 in 600 to 1 in 1800, then multiplying that by 256 more attempts. And that's still not including the chance of getting the right primary or getting the right secondaries in the first place!

So in order to get a maxed out mod of the type you see Whales sporting, you need to wait a week or two, obsessively checking the Mod store and spending bajillions of crystals, then praying you hit the 1 in 256 roulette slot that gives the right secondary the bumps you need ... OR you need to spend 16 energy times 256 times 600-1800 times any probability of getting your primary & secondary.

For the record, that's 2,457,600 energy to get the right mod before even considering getting the right primary & secondaries.

So, great. They just tripled the drop rate or so. If the drop rate was originally 33% then now we're talking about 819,200 energy to get the mod you wanted if you needed a gold mod. If you needed a purple or better (and purple counts as rare for those guild notifications), then divide by 4 and divide again by how much more frequent purple+gold is compared to just purple. Wow, you've got 204,800 energy divided by the purple+gold frequency compared to just the gold frequency. If purples are 9 times more common, then we divide by 10.

Now you only need to spend 20,480 energy to get one mod that fits the slot you want, is the right quality, and gets the right secondary bumps...

...except that calculation doesn't even include the problem of getting the right primary (since it varies from 100% to less than 10% depending on what primary you need on what shape) or getting the right secondaries in the first place (if you only need 2 in 4 - actually 2 in 3 for Purple - to be the correct ones, this is easier, but still not trivial).

So to get the right mod, you're spending 20k - 200k * the (1/probability of getting your particular secondaries). Since that last factor is going to be at least 4, now our final calculation is 80k to 800k.

Yes, this is absolutely better than trying to get a gold mod with 4 correct secondaries (that takes millions of energy), but even if you could spend 800 energy on mods per day (and good luck getting 800 cantina energy per day) that's 100 days to find the mod you want when there's no possibility of getting the primary wrong. In most cases, you're looking at 300 days or more to get one mod that you really want.

Now, if you're spending an insane amount of energy on Mod challenges, but still an amount of energy that is possible without throwing literally 1000s of dollars at crystal packs, then you might just barely average 400 energy per day.

Now we're talking 200 days minimum when primary doesn't matter and 600 days or more when primary does matter.

That means no farming character shards for 2 years to find one mod that fits your slot, your primary needs, your quality needs, and your secondary needs.

Sure people get more "rare mod" notifications now, but the idea that it is now too easy to find the mod you want is completely ridiculous.

Do the math: people are still trying over and over to get the right mod. 100% drop rate isn't even close to 100% useful mod rate.
